from MD 247:
There were several changes to Maryland football's depth chart Tuesday as the Terps head into the second half of the season against Minnesota.
At receiver, Brian Cobbs was elevated to starter at the 'Z' receiver spot with Jeshaun Jones out. Jones suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury against Ohio State. Mike Locksley has yet to specify Jones' injury, which was a major hit considering he was replacing star receiver Dontay Demus, who's out for the season with a torn ACL.
At the 'JACK' linebacker spot, Durell Nchami Ois no longer listed. Instead, Lawtez Roger is the starter, backed by prized freshman Demeioun Robinson.
Linebacker Branden Jennings, who missed the Iowa and Ohio State games after suffering an unspecified leg injury against Kent State, still isn't listed on the depth chart. It's been hoped he'd be ready to return this week. He was one of Maryland's best defensive players before he went down, leaving the linebacker unit thin.
At the 'MIKE' linebacker, Ahmad McCullough is listed as the backup to Ruben Hyppolite. Walk-on Kobi Thomas had been the No. 2 there.
The best news comes at cornerback, where Jakorian Bennett is listed as a starter. One of Maryland's best defenders, he pulled his hamstring during the first half of the Iowa game and didn't play vs. Ohio State. He ranks third in the country and first in the Big Ten with 1.6 pass breakups per game -- the most per game of any Power Five player. With fellow starter Deonte Banks seemingly out for the year, Maryland can't afford to be without Banks for long. Senior cornerback Kenny Bennett, who missed the Ohio State game due to an injury, is listed as the backup to Tarheeb Still at cornerback.
True freshman Dante Trader, a stellar athlete who was also one of the nation's best lacrosse recruits, has impressed in limited duty and was promoted No. 2 at safety behind Nick Cross. Glendon Miller had been the backup there. With Jeshaun Jones out, speedy redshirt freshman Deajuan McDougle is listed as a co-backup at punt returner behind Still, along with Rakim Jarrett.
