Maryland Attendance

Last home game we beat a then #11 USC team with a the crowd rushing the field, followed up by a fun road win at UCLA. It's homecoming, looks to be a glorious fall day and likey the last nice nice game weather wise...crowd will be excellent!

This is typically where we fuck it up 😂😂

I’m sort of surprised there are as few seats left for this game. I think we are “learning” some things that we really probably already knew.

* 11:00 kickoffs are an attendance challenge, especially for students (I’m happy to see the frequency of 11:00 kickoffs is going down)

* consistently higher student attendance has in turn increased attendance in the rest of the stadium too.

* after 15 seasons back on campus, a lot of people have finally found Gameday routines, hangouts, tailgating, etc. By B1G standards it is still a somewhat low number of tailgating spots but still way more than at the Metrodome. People have found it doesn’t always have to be “arrive late, leave early” like in the dome and this has made some new repeat customers.

* the team has found a baseline winning level and now is expected to not only win non-con games, but some B1G games too.

* they’ve done a nice job creating a fun environment in the stadium. It is generally fun to go to Gopher games now.

The result of stuff like this (as well as other examples I have failed to point out) is we are close to a sellout for an opponent that doesn’t move the needle much or bring fans of their own, in late October when our team is hovering around .500. Clearly notable improvement compared to a decade ago in the same stadium.

Tomorrow is a perfect example of the momentum in attendance I was talking about. There will be significantly more Gopher fans in attendance compared to the 2019 game against the same opponent, around the same date, with nearly identical weather. More fans now for our .500 team than 2019’s undefeated edition of the Gophers playing in nearly identical conditions.

Gonna be a bunch of out of state wrestling recruits and their parents at the game. Let's show them what we're made of and some Minnesota Nice. Entice them to be future Gophers.

Was it Homecoming in 2019? That's probably a 5000 bump right there, if not.

Time for that long-awaited 30K expansion!
Maybe they could at least bring back the West End Zone Seats that were there during the Vikings 2 year run at the Bank?

Maryland was not Homecoming in 2019.
Homecoming tomorrow is probably the biggest factor in the higher attendance for tomorrow.

Maybe there was a State Fair special too. I can't remember.

I think attendance has been consistently higher the last couple years. I don't think it's just because of homecoming or a ticket special.

You want blue seats with scaffolding??

Hard pass.

It's fun to do a lap around the stadium and get to the open end. It's a vastly different view. I like the tables (should be more of them) and various food options. It has its own vibe.

Homecoming attendance in the new stadium

It looks like the “Homecoming attendance bump” is usually worth an extra 1-3k. Tomorrow has a chance to top 50000 (for homecoming) for the first time since 2015.

2010 Northwestern 49228 (49913 season average)

2024 Maryland 50000?

Going to be a great crowd, something is happening, the state is getting behind The Gophers. This program is on the rise, we need to keep momentum going today.
