Go Gophers!!

Is Wally eligible for them in 2nd semester? I forget the details on when he actually left us.

Looks like we might as well start the transfer thread in earnest now!

No. He stayed at the U through the spring semester.

MU has had 9 scholarship players available this year, the tallest being 6'7".
Luke Fischer is an add now, but MU loses 2... So now at 8 for the rest of the year.

Deonte is legit. Hope the U reaches out.

Wowsers.

I work with a Marquette fan and he is upset about Burton leaving.

especially enticing because he'd be eligible before conference play next year, no?

I'd have to think that Buzz is all over this - Burton that is.

I agree. I live in Mke and saw him in HS a couple times, as well as numerous MU games. My first thought when clicking the thread was "it'd sure be sweet if Burton was one and looks at the U."

Hey everyone. Been monitoring these boards for a long time but never decided to sign up and chime in. The Burton conversation sparked my interest too much, though.

I do a lot of coaching on the local AAU circuit, and my team crossed paths with Burton during his last AAU summer. Easily the mostly physically impressive player that I've seen live in an AAU game. He is all of 6-5, is built like a linebacker, and is faster/quicker than most guards.

While I didn't have any D1-level players, I can remember a defensive possession where I had 5 h.s. all conference players on the floor on defense. In that one single possession, I watched Burke split the trap of my two best guards, dribble around my 3 who came to help, and then proceed to emphatically dunk over my 4 and 5 at the same time (despite being positioned for a charge).

The kid oozes talent...but I've heard rumblings of possible academic difficulties. I'm hoping they're inaccurate and that he considers the Gophers...Pitino and staff would do amazing things with him on the press and in transition.

If the kid applies to transfer, it has to mean he has already found a place to go... right?

No. (Although not sure what you mean by "applies to transfer" ... doesn't really exist)

Yeah, he was one of my favorites to watch on the travel circuit over the years. Amazing strength, just a bull. Some games he'd get on a roll from outside as well... I really hope the best for him. Can't deny this one in the slightest - this transfer hurts.

No idea if this is waht woozee was getting at, but of course you have to 'apply' to the school/schools you wish to transfer to.

Absolutely exists, no way around it my friend.

Burton is a very generous 6'4. Not even close to being 6'5 lol. That said he is a bull and a very talented offensive player. His problem is shot selection and adapting to a more open offense. The hope was that adding Fischer would help him as he could move back to the 3 but obviously he left. Now only 1.5 years left so I think he messed up big time but if he finds the right team he has immense talent on offense.

There is the other problem. Defense. The man has super quick hands for steals, but that is about it. He just has not figured out defense in the slightest. The 80 foot foul from the basket? That is deonte.

as for academic issues. Completely false. Good kid, got good grades in high school and was doing well at MU.

Sorry, I'm not impressed by plays that aren't even within the rules.

Haha you are such a buzz kill in every situation. Travel or not, that was impressive and he is a phenomenal athlete.

He might be a phenomenal athlete. Citing a play that should've been whistled as a travel isn't evidence of it. As I've accurately stated, most Division I players could throw down wicked ducks constantly if they were allowed to travel on every play.

It wasn't a travel

I heard traveling before you jump totally negates the laws of physics, thus making dunking all over someone in emphatic fashion really easy. I'm not impressed either. Not one bit.

I took 3 steps just now and then hit my head on our vaulted ceilings.
