Gray will prove very quickly that he was a better option than Weber. Weber had his occassional great games (MSU 2009) but he had far too many clunkers. His passing and decision making was inconsistent throughout his career. With the amount of starts he had over his career, he should have improved more. Maybe some of that is on Brewster for constantly switching systems, but for a 5th year senior QB who had starter since he was a freshman, he was not good. I'm sorry, I respect the hell out of him, but it wasn't like he was some rockstar QB stuck on a horrible team.

I'm curious, how long will it take for people to stop ripping Weber and start appreciateing his accomplishments?? It isn't his fault that Gray didn't impress coaches enough to apply real pressure. Lets move on, Gray is the present, Weber is the past.

What accomplishments? Career stats don't really impress me that much at this level, because on a good team he never would have started as a freshman. He's very average and that's fine. Great guy, great toughness, average QB. That's not ripping him. That's being honest. Ripping him is saying he's a loser and he sucks.

If you're going to "tell it like it is," then you need to do so. Weber was still a better option than Gray because Gray is a terrible thrower. Terrible. And I love Gray as a player.

Gray could have been a sub-.500 passer, easy.

He needs to carry that ball around with him all off-season and toss it to anyone that's willing.

Weber was the best option at quarterback without changing the whole offense. Again. Watch some college football. There are a lot of QB's who bounced passes on a lot of teams. He might have not had all the ability that we wished for, but he was A LEADER, and tough as nails.

Time to move on and embrace the future.

For me, as someone who said that Weber was inaccurate on this thread. I do think Weber was the better option to play QB last season, especially because Gray was a decent WR. I don't understand why any criticism out of Adam Weber has to be coupled with criticism to other players or an explanation of the things he did well.

A lot of the anger over not playing Weber was last season (2009). Weber had a terrible season last year and Gray probably wouldn't have been much better (possibly worse). However, since we weren't getting anything out of the QB position, I would have taken nothing with the ability to run (Gray).

I like Adam Weber but he had some issues as a QB. Everyone on this thread who pointed out those issues did it with respect to Adam. He doesn't need a buch of Capt. Save-a-Adam Weber's to defend him if anyone has anything less than positive to say about him.

I will say this though, I don't think that team comes back and wins games against Illinois and Iowa if it wasn't for Adam Weber. I think it was pretty obvious that he was a big reason why that team stuck together and got better.

Everyone expects Gray to be Coach Kills #1 come Fall. A no-brainer based soley on his athleticism and surely the crowd favorite. Sure he can run but his future as a passer is unknown. The young man has a lot to learn in directing the offense, making decisions, taking care of the ball and managing the game. Plus there was some concern RE: Grays ability to grasp Fischball which is not surprising. Coach Kills offense is far from simple too. However, I am confident Coach Kill has been there before and knows how to develop an inexperienced QB.

Harnish can pass on the run which is tough to do yet a part of Kill's NIU offense. I doubt we will see Gray in that position rather in a position where he can best use his talents. Shorten the play book and start with and learn ot execute the basics.

No question that very high expectations will be put on Gray. I hope we don't miss Weber but that remains to be seen.

Frankly, I was never that impressed with Weber. He was not a natural runner, like Gray, and didn't fit well into the "Spread Coast" or whatever it was that led to that 1-11 season. He was a 55% passer, far below the better Big Ten QBs, who were pitching at 65-75%. He was very game, though, physically tough, and loyal. Gray will probably have some problems passing next year, especially on the long throws. But he can run and improvise and should be capable on shorter throws. Things will be better.

No question that very high expectations will be put on Gray. I hope we don't miss Weber but that remains to be seen.

If we find out Gray is not a good QB I will NEVER wish that Weber was still here. I will be cursing Brewster for failing to recruit a better QB than either Weber or Gray. Weber's starting of every Gopher game for four years was an endurance test for many fans. You can use the change in coaches and offensive schemes as excuses all you want but that does account for Weber constantly locking onto his primary receiver, throwing into double coverage, lack of touch on short passes, and incredibly inaccurate long passes. Those are basic skills that every Big 10 QB should have learned in high school. I watched every one of Weber's games and almost always came away thinking the other team had the better QB.
