Maroon Tops / Gold Pants

Apologize for the somewhat meaningless post, but is there a reason why we rarely seem to wear the Maroon Top/ Gold pant combo at home and the White Top/Gold Pant combo on the road.....

Don't get me wrong, I'm in the camp of spicing it up with different jersey combos now and then...but the traditional style hasn't been the case for quite some time.

Can't wait til tomorrow!!

The players don't pick it I guess, I don't think there's any real reason for it.
 

I miss the marron tops gold pant combo.

It has been awhile since we have seen the Maroon tops gold pants combo. I would be just as good with the Gold tops and maroon bottom. That look we have had a little luck with in playing hard the gold tops maroon pants.
I don' think the gold pants with white tops has been worn in four years time on the road.
 





To add to my previous post: Was there a reason the Gophers didn't go with a full 9 combinations? (there is no gold on gold option). After all we are the Golden Gophers.
 





Jike beat me to it with the white-on-gold combo. I figured we would wear that at NMSU early this season because of the similar maroon in both teams unis. It is just me, but maroon-on-maroon is my least favorite combo by far.

I don't like the white tops, gold pants combo. Too much like Michigan. I much prefer white tops, maroon pants. I think the contrast looks sharp.

The seniors pushed for all gold for their last game, so they were allowed. They weren't technically one of the featured options when they were unveiled but obviously, we have gold jerseys, we have gold pants, so they're an option.

Just cuz it's a lazy Friday afternoon at work.. I separate out home vs road for preference, in order:

Home:
1. Maroon over gold
2. Gold over maroon
3. Maroon over white
4. All gold (in our new uniforms they look okay.. the older ones looked tacky somehow)
5. Gold over white (is this a home combo?)
6. All maroon.

Road:
1. White over gold
2. White over maroon
Hideous: All white, particularly with the white helmets. Even more-so when not an ounce of gold is present on the uniform. Pointless and makes us look like we're trying too hard to be Wisconsin/Texas/etc's road unis.

Maybe we should just have a pinned thread where everyone posts once with their uniform combo rankings. You can go back and edit it as time goes on to reflect a change of opinion. Mods can post an ever-running weighted rank based on a points system for uni combos to show what the board's favorite is. That way we never have to have this conversation again and we can just look at the thread and grin.
 

I don't really care about the combo that much as long as we never use white pants. Ever. They need to die a horrible flaming death. I'd gladly throw the first match.
 

I am not a huge fan of monochromatic uniform combos. All Maroon can't look pretty mean, but it is hard to get over the Unitard effect. Same goes for all white and all gold - even with the contrasting helmet.

I am fan of contrast, and utilizing our primary school colors as much as possible, for any uni combo. White can come into play on the road simply due to general rules of the game. I hope to never see black outside of the facemask, shoes, gloves, etc. And I absolutely hope to never see us wearing a gray uniform - ever.
 

I can't imagine they would wear any white combos versus any opponents the rest of the way. White is predominate (non) color in all their remaining opponents. I would totally stay away from it if I were Coach.
 

Old school, and I am talking 60's the pants were gold on the road and at home. The jersey changed road whites, home maroon. The changes came with the Nike deals, and the ability to sell more fans different Sweats, and T shirts. You have seen the extremes like Oregon who changes uniforms after every game. And then there are the purists. You don't need no stink'n uniform changes at Penn State, Alabama, USC. Seems you need uniform changes at places like Indiana, Maryland, and dare I say Minnesota? To stir the fans to talk about uniforms, but its who is in the Uniform that counts.
 

And yet other traditional/modern powers like Michigan, OSU, Stanford, Tennessee, Miami, and many more do change their uniforms. If we were a traditional powerhouse with a current history of winning as well as a historic tradition of not changing uniforms (which wasn't even the case from the 1930s on), I'd be with you. I like that our current uniforms allow flexibility to wear something a little different (gold on maroon, etc etc) while having a clean look to them. It's a good mix between PSU/Alabama and Oregon without wearing a different helmet every week (IU) or having some special uniforms with a non-school color (MSU's unis with the gold/bronze accenting the green) or a gaudy design (OSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Michigan have worn some hideous crap lately).

During the golden years (pun intended) with Bernie winning all those national championships, we wore all gold. When Cal Stoll took over he went to the old gold look again. People here complain about the YELLOW. No on complains about Notre Dame being yellow. Why don't we go GOLD????

Also, why didn't the Gophers ever go to the Rose Bowl in the 30s when they were national champs?
