I've seen a few blogs and other whispers out of Gonzaga concerning Mark Few and his relationship at the University. Could this lead to a potential move to another school? He has received much criticism lately for another early retreat from tournament play. Something may be afoot in Spokane, potentially another Gonzaga coach could be headed to MN or is it UCLA? An .801 winning percentage and a 14 year perennial tournament team is nothing to ignore. Last year Few was reportedly headed to AZ but that did not materialize, but this year seems to be different. Tommy Llyod is slated to be Few's heir apparent and that move may happen sooner then expected if MN can lure him away. The U of MN has been silent on this potential hire but now that coach Smart is out of the picture, It would make perfect sense that Dir of basketball operations Jerry Krause might be getting nervous. Dave Boling, The (Tacoma) News Tribune says Few's job is safe but Greg Crawford of CSN Northwest says its time for him to go. It's unbelievable that a coach with a .800 winning percentage and a 14 year tournament run should be worried? Potentially Few might ease everyone's mind and take the MN job, as he is likely frustrated with the uneasiness his perennial winning makes some fans. Few has been part of the Villa 7 coaches group thus knows Teague and Ellis, thus this link makes perfect sense if it turns out to be true. He is only paid just under $1MM per year thus he could be easily lured to MN financially. Could MN fans tolerate another Gonzaga guy? :(

Why not, I'm curious as to your thoughts? Things seem like could heat up in Spokane over this...

I'd take Mark Few in a heart beat! What's there not to like? (And, Don Monson was coach at the U of Oregon. Dan Monson was at Gonzaga and Minnesota.)

Not sure why he'd leave. At this rate he will never get canned in Spokane, because he will always have an above-average team in a really bad league. At Minnesota he'd have an average team in a really good league. He's also from the West Coast and has been at Gonzaga (as a GA or assistant) for his entire coaching career (since 1989).

I think he would be a great hire. Im curious if their is any validity to the whispers and comments from Spokane...Lets see how long it will take before people will be spotting planes from Spokane to Flying Cloud and Limos to Winter Park ?

There is none. I attended Gonzaga for one year and none of my Gonzaga friends have mentioned anything. Few just had the best regular season in program history, there is no way they'd fire him. He will be there as long as he wants, which will be a very long time.

Gopher 07...Few is taking heat in WA. They are a winning program and now want to win it all. Few has not done that...Plus knowing a litttle about Few, he probably wants to see if he has what it takes to win at the next level along with a 1MM per year pay bump. UCLA might be a better fit but MN has a lot to offer and he knows Teague and Ellis...

Madtown, I agree they wont fire him either, but some fans are not happy with him either. Few might want to take a bump up in class...

I don't think those articles know what they are talking about. I know A LOT of Gonzaga fans and they all belove Few and want (and expect) him to stay on for many years to come.

Madtown...Some of those articles attached show Few has been taking some heat. I think MN would be able to be attract him, if he wants to move up to a better league and the next challenge. He wont get fired...

You know the U isn't based in Eden Prairie, right?

Breakin' I know that. Im referencing the Brett Farve hysteria. I see the same things happening regarding the gophers coach. Flight Plans, sightings, etc.

You're delusional if you think he'd come to Minnesota. I'm sorry, it isn't going to happen. He has a very good thing going in Spokane and if he ever left it would be for a West Coast job because he's from there (Oregon) and that's where is recruiting niche is (West Coast/Canada).

Mad, I know you seem to really like Gonzaga, but coaches move around all the time. Caliparri, Pettino, Self, etc. All these guys started as smaller schools and moved up. Maybe UCLA is a better fit I don't know, but something might be up at Gonzaga. Lloyd will do a good job for your team should a change be made. He has been learning for years.

You are right, he's DEFINITELY leaving.

Who?

Mad, I dont know if he is or not, but its not impossible nor would it be unexpected if he did...Most good coaches leave small schools. The lure of fame and fortune is strong and Few is human...

Johnyboy, Tommy Llyod. He will take over at Gonzaga upon Few's leaving. Few said this in august....

Few is better than Grant and would be a good hire. 14 consecutive tournament appearances= win. Long stint at a mid-major school, probably looking for change= win. Put Gonzaga on the map and more= win. Able to recruit and get the best out of all his players=win. The Gophers will not be getting 4 and 5 star recruits, let's face it guys.

Let's also not forget that Monson inherited Gonzaga. They were already good when he took over, but were still not nationally called a "contender." Few made them a national contender and did so at a very small school for 14 years!

If the rumors are true, I would welcome Few with open arms.

Yeah, lots of fame in Minnesota. I don't know what your fixation is on Few, but he is not leaving. I obviously won't be able to open your eyes to this realization so I'm done trying.

Mad,not a problem. I just have referenced these rumblings out of spokane and the link is clear and it makes sense to me if it would happen. I just wanted to get other opinions on the topic as I like the move should the rumors be true. Mad, since you are connected to Gonzaga, let me know of the flight schedules when they are ready to announce the next Gophers coach:)
