Sid: program other day recognized Joel Maturi
MC: Maturi pavilion. Joel did phenomenal job of connecting the 2 departments (men's and women's)
Sid: talks about Maturi's work at U.
MC: I've been blessed to work with great leaders. Joel has ability to connect people. the 2 departments had very separate cultures. Joel was able to connect them, unite us.
Sid: Had President on. said big donor coming up
MC: we've raised $110 million for Athletes Village. hopeful there will be a big announcement in next two weeks. with 25 programs, will impact all student athletes.
Sid: sell naming rights to Williams arena?
MC: not talked to anyone about naming Williams arena. grateful to 3-M for agreement with Mariucci. got to find right partner.
Mona: on-line suggestion for Sherwin Williams (as sponsor).
MC: have heard that. if that was easy, we'd do it.
Mona: what about Opening Football game?
MC: Lot of excitement. PJ came in here - able to connect with people. lot of enthusiasm. lot of kids saw field. any win is a good win. look forward to OSU
Max: AD's get together? BTN - working on same team.
MC: Not difficult to get consensus. I was at Boise St in Mt West Conf- also been at schools in ACC & SEC. But the B1G is most collegial. all want to work together. much stronger when collective. strong relationship with AD's - text messages with Michigan. MN a legacy member
Mona: even thought you Left MN, got sense that MN was near and dear to you.
MC: loved it when I was here from 2001-2005. fell in love with place 2 children born here. Wife is from IA. consider this home. always followed Gohers closely. could get BTN (at other jobs). got opportunity to come back - very excited.
Sid - so many billboards, promotions around town
MC: Fleck brought sense of urgency. lot of good things going on. 5 B1G championships last year (for MN teams). appreciate people's support.
Mona: Volleyball team has talent
MC: great win over Tenn. lot of our recruits - when I meet with VB recruits I tell them we have the best coach in world. Olympic medals. the top VB coach. Give Joel credit for hiring Hugh. lost 1 set this year. Spent more time with Coach McCutcheon. could put him in charge of fortune 500 company. tremendous leadership skills - looking down the road. starting 3 FR very fortunate to have him on staff.
Sid: what about Basketball ticket sales?
MC: Phenomenal. Give Richard a lot of credit. we're renewing season tickets at high rate - sold a ton of new season tickets.
Sid: you've got some new packages for Season FB tickets? nobody in your office will give that (information) to me?
MC: will get you that info.
Mona: loss of Eric Curry?
MC: Forget about Eric as basketball player. he is everything you want as a student at U of MN. he's out for the year. great young man. he'll bounce back. optimistic about coming year. build program in right direction.
Max: future for B1G with 14 teams?
MC: Commissioner Delaney is a phenomenal leader. been commissioner since 1989. his leadership - ability to see future. I was here before - talked about possibility of BTN. phenomenal thing for conf. changes in future? I think there will be long-term.
Sid: new Buildings on time?
MC: On-time, on budget. Scheduled to open in Jan of 2018. training table, football performance center, basketball performance center, Life skills program. excited.
Mona: you lose Softball coach. talk about Search for new coach
MC: thank coach Allister. had to move quickly. reached out to HC at Iowa State. talked to Coach Anderson (baseball). He said to hire someone who knows how to practice indoors. Coach caught my eye at Iowa State. Called her. She said "you need to hire me."
Max - talks about duck hunting and some guy who lives next door to Coyle.......................
Mona: women's program doing very well. really strong
MC: Phenomenal job. Soccer won B1G tournament. great group of young ladies. Cross-Country, Gymnastics, awesome. work hard on those sports, and Football.

MC: new 6-year contract with ABC, ESPN, Fox, CBS, BTN. $114 million budget for MN athletics - puts us 8th in conf. compete against Mich, Ohio State. TV revenues a big part of that.
Mona: #1 question you get from recruits?
MC: what's experience like for student-athletes. tell them highest public rates of any institution in country with academic success. top-25 institution. do it right way. in Twin Cities, fortune 500 companies. come here with a backpack, leave with a briefcase. go out to work in community.
