He isn't "selling" anything about 3 guard lineups for the year. He's shared what he hopes will happen and what it depends on.

"We’re really trying to this year to play (bigger guards like) Carlos Morris and Dupree McBrayer at (shooting guard). We’re trying not to play three guards. Now will (Charles) Buggs and JR (Gilbert) allow us to do that? I hope they will, because it will make us a better defensive team and better rebounding the ball. A lot of our issues last year from a defensive standpoint were being quick to the ball. A lot of that has to do with playing three guards."

Pitino said nothing about loving Martin AFTER quitting the team, so all of what you said is irrelevant. I don't understand what you were getting at.

I see what you're saying about Pitino being a salesman. I'm glad you meant it in a good way. We are certainly going to play less of a 3 guard lineup this year. Pitino has said that and that he would like to stick to playing as little of a 3-guard lineup as possible but that it depends on how ready our small forwards are to play big minutes. You seem to have an issue with him saying that for some reason.
 


A three guard lineup should be quicker to the ball and cover three point shooters better than a big lineup. The reason for two guards to me is more about depth along with some bigger kids more suited to play the three.

Winasota Gopher tried to lecture me more than a year ago that Pitino would "never" play a three forward lineup because Pitino has a certain "style" that he will stick with regardless. I thought he was a fool for saying that then because the things that people do are at least as much influenced by their circumstances as they are by their desires. What you're reading from Winasota Gopher now is just a reflection of his inability to admit that he was wrong (that and the fact that he is no less foolish now than he was then).
