Marcus Fuller blog: Iverson and Williams benched for team violations Monday night

Too bad. I really liked that starting lineup...wish it was permanent.

Last year it was Westbrook and Nolen getting in the locker room fight.

Iverson/Williams? My money's on Colt. :)

I like having Trevor in the starting lineup. He's a man. That's very apparent after just two games.

Long way to go, there'll be some bumps in the road (especially until Devoe gets back), but I like this team's potential. Looks like we have 3 new guys -- Trevor, Austin & Chip -- who could make solid to significant contributions. Like the fact that the new guys have created some serious competition for playing time.

Just more proof that Trevor is a man. Here's a tweet from Al this morning when they were going through airport security to Puerto Rico.

Just watch @gophers32 get frisked by the airport ppl me and @BlakeHoffarber r witness the guy said and I quote "got quiet a 3rd leg there"

Uh Tubby, YOU are the leader. The players are in your charge. Williams and Iverson report directly to you. YOU make the decisions.

Seems like a lot of problems with discipline on this team.

Yes, Tubby is the leader but in the system, there needs to be internal leadership among the players. Obviously, he is not staisfied with that. Izzo calls out at least one guy a year for not living up to leadesrhip expecations. It's a normal thing among good coaches. They know they won't be successful without internal leadership so they press their guys into it. This circumstnace is clearly one that Tubby thought should have been taken care of by his captains, and wasn't, and he is torked off about it.

Tubby was extremely laudatory with regards to Blake in his after the game radio interview. Blake seems to be Tubby's main man, IMHO.

Makes obvious sense to me.

16 points and 7 assists. Makes Rodney and Ralph's game a lot easier, set them up with some easy dunks to finish.

What position does Tubby play? He was G in 1971-72-73 at High Point. I think his eligibility is up.

In his interview of Tubby after the Siena game, Spenser Tollackson open with " good game coach ". Tubby's response was " GOOD GAME ? ". Then Tubby eased his tone and tried to find good things to say about their proformance. I felt Tubby is not a happy camper right now.

Hmm. So Tubby was more upset after an 8 point win then Brew was after losing 55-0 to a hated rival? Take that for what you will.

Trevor has earned a spot in the starting line-up, but I get real nervous when Tubby subs in his second group all at the same time. Maverick, Chip, Rodney, Colton and Mo have very limited ability on the offensive end. It was nice to see Chip step up last night on a couple of occasions. Tubby seemed to be more selective with his substitutions in the second half and the results were obviously much better.

Tubby's position is COACH. Look up the definition. Might be something to do with being responsible for the players, coaches, etc for the BB program.

Obviously, player leadership is expected. Captains for sure. THAT is another issue.

Tubby is cracking down early before a Nolan/Westbrook type fracas happens in PR. He fully realizes the potential this year and the importance of frosh getting meaningful minutes when the game is close and not just clean up minutes. With WKU having frosh starting guards an effective full court press and playing time by our frosh guards will be important.

I'm not to concerned if Trevor or Colton starts, I like what each of them brings to the team. Really, I would like to see more of them both on the floor together. Hollins on the other hand can already do all the things they are looking for Rodney to add to his game.

Agreed.

And he did make the decision. He didn't start the two last night. And he has Devoe out in a stretch of games where we could sure use him. I don't see the issue. He wants his seniors and his captains to patrol this, which is what any coach would stress. I don't think there are any more discipline issues on this team than the average. More than others, fewer than some.

I'm certainly not disputing any of the facts here, but I can't imagine a competent security agent saying this. There's already enough hue and cry about pat downs and personal intrusions, and then one of the agents finds a need to comment about somebody's genitalia? Can you imagine a female guard patting down a woman and commenting "wow, those are real, aren't they?" I understand they're compliments, but it's incredibly unprofessional.

Coaches coach but players play. Leadership is needed ON THE COURT too.

I think it's safe to say that Tubby was extremely disappointed and frustrated with last years team on and off the court and felt that all the bickering, suspensions, and transfer talk led to a very long and miserable season that was saved some by a late season tournament run. It's also very clear that Tubby will not put up with this crap anymore, even the little stuff, and will keep sending the message until the guys get it and hopefully prevent it from ruining another promising season. It's also carried over into recruiting, where he is placing more emphasis on character in recruiting in the hopes of limiting these issues in the future.

Iverson was reportedly chewing with his mouth open at team dinner and Williams had his elbows on the table.

And Devoe passed gas during the prayer which is a much more serious offense, and the punishment is more severe then just an early benching

Devoe would have been ok if it was a silent but deadly passing of the gas. That way Tubby wouldn't have known who it was.

Yes true. However, Trevor would have probably taken the blame...

But not before Royce White would have been accused of it.

A little TMI on Trevor's tripod.

Seriously, I can't help but wonder whether Iverson's situation has any relation to his ineffective play so far. He doesn't seem to be well focused out there. He's making mental errors and seems like he's not totally there sometimes.

Great Coach's cultivate leadership from their team...they bring out the leaders on the team and in turn the leaders on the team add another layer of accountability. Talent alone can only get you so far without leaders on the team. Look at the Dallas Cowboys...

I don't blame Tubby for wanting someone to step up and be a leader on the team and for wanting the players to hold themselves the same standards Tubby would expect.
