Dare I suggest the Big Ten now has a better chance than the SEC of putting two teams in the Playoff?

10. In fact, the toughest game left on Iowa’s schedule will likely come against … 3-4 Nebraska. The Huskers found yet another excruciating way to lose to a good team Saturday night, with QB Adrian Martinez’s fumble setting up No. 9 Michigan’s game-winning field goal. Scott Frost, now 0-10 against ranked opponents in Lincoln, appeared to be holding back tears on his way off the field. Somehow Nebraska is noticeably better than at any point in Frost’s tenure and still sporting a sub-.500 record.

11. Michigan and Michigan State have both started 6-0, and it’s impossible to say which team is better. The Wolverines showed off its most balanced offense to date against the Huskers; QB Cade McNamara threw for a season-high 255 yards, and running back tandem Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum combined for 212 yards and three TDs. Meanwhile, the Spartans became just the fifth team in FBS history with a 300-yard passer (Payton Thorne), 200-yard rusher (Kenneth Walker) and 200-yard receiver (Jalen Nailor) in their 31-13 win at Rutgers.

Michigan visits Michigan State on Oct. 30, the same day Ohio State hosts Penn State, both right before the first College Football Playoff rankings release of the season.

Go Gophers!!

ESPN's worst nightmare.
No chance. Alabama and Georgia will snag 2 spots (deserved or not, doesn't really matter), Cincinnati has to get 1 if they win out and the last should go to the Big Ten. MSU will crater as soon as they lose because there is no way that is a top 10 team. Ohio State, PSU, Michigan will knock 2 of those 3 out of the way and then it will come down to the winner of the Big Ten championship game.

Iowa has one loss only in the B10 championship to any of a one loss OSU or PSU or an undefeated Michigan or Michigan State and it’s going to be a tough scenario to put Iowa out and an sec team. I think that’s what he’s saying. Can also flip it and have two unbeaten B10 teams in and then you have to remove one when everyone else in the field has a loss.

It's evident in the polls. No matter who Alabama loses to and by how much, they will always be the highest ranked team with that quantity of losses.

SEC has two major networks - ESPN and CBS who actively support it. Plus in the South football is religious in nature (not in the good way either). Essentially, the type of belief that allows one to lie, cheat and steal in order to justify ones core belief (football in the south is better). Which means every coach and sports writer will vote for the South regardless of evidence. Hence, why a team like Alabama that barely beats a FL team and loses to Texas A & M (who should have lost to Colorado) can still be ranked above OSU who has destroyed everyone but a top 10 Oregon team in the 2nd week of the year.

Toughest game for Iowa is the Gophers...if they get lucky and beat the Gophers then it will be the B1G title game.

Yeah but if 1 loss Bama wins the SEC it’s over for everyone else

Dare we say that the NCAA is impotent? The monied TV Sports Network are calling all the shots.

Yeah but we have the B1G network.

I don’t know what’s going on with the polls when Iowa is ranked #2 over undefeated Michigan and Oklahoma. Alabama despite a bad loss is still positioned just outside the top 4. Of course.

This is a wierd year. It’s setting up for a bit of a chaotic CFP scenario IMO. Good…good…cackle

CBS doesn't have SEC football anymore.
Lost / didn't pay enough for that contract.

The big ten won’t get 2 if Iowa loses the big ten title game.

Michigan
Michigan state unbeaten

Ohio state
Penn state one loss

need Iowa to beat an unbeaten Michigan or Michigan state in the championship game for the big ten to get two IMO. 1 loss eastern team will have the SOS to get in without a big ten title. 1 loss Iowa won’t have the SOS to do it. So Iowa need to win the conference, and someone from the east with one loss has a chance. This eliminates Ohio state and Penn state because the big ten title game would be their second loss.

Iowa can get in with 1 loss and a big ten title. Iowa can’t get in if the loss is in the big ten title game.

the likeliest scenario for 2 big ten teams in playoff is:
Georgia is unbeaten (meaning Bama has two losses either to avoid SEC championship game altogether or a second loss to Georgia in the championship)
Cinci loses

Michigan vs Michigan State winner loses to Iowa in big ten title game and falls to 12-1
Michigan vs Michigan state loser goes 11-1.
Iowa is 13-0

Right now you can clearly see how challenging it is to win the battle of public perception when the competing conference plays fewer conference games.

Right now the SEC and Big Ten have played the same number of conference games, and not surprisingly, the Big Ten has 5 teams in the top 10 (the SEC has only 2).

But over the next 7 weeks, the Big Ten will play 7 additional conference games. And this will almost certainly cause perception to shift toward the SEC.

(Everyone always likes to claim the SEC has a similar grind, because they have rivalries with the ACC. This is nonsense. Only Georgia plays 10 P5 opponents this year, as all Big Ten teams do now every year).

What will help the big ten perception is if Michigan, Michigan state, Penn state, and Ohio state don’t lose to anyone except each other.

if Iowa wins out. If wisconsin and Minnesota win out minus games against each other and Iowa.

what hurts the big ten is when the teams ranked 4-6 in the conference drop games to northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, and Indiana

Having a clear 2-3 in the west instead of a muddy 2-6 will help perception. Having the bottom 3 in the east losing out to the top 4 in the east will help perception.

If a 1-loss Ohio State wins the Big Ten is it over for everyone else?
I think so.
if one loss Ohio state wins the Big Ten the big ten isn’t getting two teams in the playoff.

Iowa isn’t going to have the SOS.
Penn state would have two losses.
Michigan state doesn’t have the clout.
michigan might but would have lost to Ohio state in their last game.
Big ten champ would have an out of conference loss. Would need pac 12 champ to have two losses for a non big ten champ to go before pac 12 champ.

Disagree.
12-1 Iowa with a big ten title would 100% make the playoff
Ya, you're probably right. I just dislike where Iowa is sitting right now that I can't think rationally. They are set up again like they were in '15 (no tOSU or Michigan and a bevy of other weak opponents). Lucky bastards.

Also, I am not a great bettor (pretty obvious by where I stand in the U Pick 'Em), but I just got a feeling that either Purdue, Wisc., or NW will beat them before we play them. So if all falls into place, a loss to us will essentially knock them out.

The only way we see 2 B1G teams is this:

- Georgia runs table and beats bama in SEC title game.
- Cincinnati and SMU loose a game.
- 2 loss champ of PAC 12 and ACC
- OSU beats Iowa or Iowa and Michigan meet undefeated in Championship Game.

CFC Final Four:
1. Georgia
2. Oklahoma
3. Iowa or OSU
4. Michigan or Iowa

unless of course Oklahoma looses, then Cincinnati could run the table and allow 2 Big Ten teams in.

If Ohio state wins the big ten, the big ten probably needs to losses from cinci, pac 12 champ, and big 12 champ, and the second place SEC team to get a second in.

The big tens path to 2 in involves a team from Michigan winning the east

Agree.

I really don't see either Michigan team beating OSU.
OSU is hot again and will win all of their games by 14 or more.
Then beat Iowa 20-17 in a BTT.

Iowa will have lost a game by then however either against us or Nebraska.

Wisconsin could beat Iowa too if they just punt on every first down and put it on their defense vs Petras. Iowa can't out-turnover you if you never have the ball on offense!

Does Norte Dame still have just the one loss?
Cause a 1 loss ND brings more viewers than a runner up B1G.
