Make a bold prediction about 2016-17 you think may actually come true

Marcus Williams becomes the backup QB and actually starts two games for a injured Mitch.

We finish in the top 25 total offense and defense nationally. Last year we were 24th defensively and 103rd offensively. The easier schedule combined, better play and the new offense are why.

Gophers capture West title, then knock off defending champ Michigan State in B1G title game. The Gophers are smelling roses.

The offense will score more points in the first seven games than the whole 2015-16 campaign.

I like this prediction. Just bold enough to be crazy, but attainable. We would have to average 40+ points per game against bad to mediocre competition...for our recent history of plodding offense that's definitely bold and crazy. Fair to say our heads will collectively explode if this occurs.

Johnson has a (relatively short) track record of productive offenses. He took a bottom feeder ULL Sun Belt team and helped them to go 9-4 for three straight seasons after his arrival. His offense set a school record at his prior OC stop in 2007. How much of ULL was Terrance Broadway or other factors (schedule etc) is the wildcard.

Mitch Leidner will set new Gopher single-season records for passing atts, yards and TD's.

2895 yards, 24 passing TDs, 29 total TDs are the single season records, all set by the great Adam Weber.

Attainable. Mitch had 21 total TDs and 2701 passing yards last season. He has a new wheel and a new line and a new OC. And a relatively easy slate of defenses, compared to 2015. Not out of line to think crazy things could happen.

Maybe not this year, but next year who knows? If Mitch and Croft go down it will be interesting to see the third-string selection. I think in Jay's offense he expects the QB to process a bit more information and probably whomever grasps the reads and has better instincts, better running ability will start, height and weight be damned. If nothing else he looks athletic enough to help us at other positions.

Tracey will go on the Subway diet, replace Jared as the spokesperson, and trigger the next great scandal at the U when elopes he with a 21 y/o babe from the dance line.

The leading rusher is not named Brooks or Smith, Jr.

Claeys will make a pledge to drop 150 pounds if the Gophers win the B1G Title.

Sometimes I look at gopher single season stats and think "oh yeah that's doable" and ... oh yeah nobody done better ... :(

Looks like 2 schools were able to accomplish that last year. Clemson (14-1) and Boise State (9-4).
Penn State (105) and Northwestern (115) finished even lower than the Gophers in the total offense category.

I'm going to follow your lead gophmeister and go with top 25 in both offense and defense.

Antoine Winfield Jr will return punts and kick offs. He will set freshmen records for average yardage; and average return and TD records by the time he finishes.

There are no threads or general discussion during the non-conference about us waiting until conference play to "open up the playbook."

Bold.

On this subject, I'd really like to see a faster start to the season, specifically offense. It would be nice to see our team come out and dominate the teams that they should, from the get go. Not that it had anything to do with the playbook, just in reference to the slow starts.

Giving some team, any team, a whoop'n would be nice this year. Get the team's confidence up and such.

I feel like I should walk it back and say top 25 defense, which we had last year so definitely possible, and top 50 offense. It's probably too much to ask to go from 103rd to 25th. My biggest reason for hope is the maturity of Brooks and Smith and them playing behind a stronger, healthier line.

Another bold prediction:

We have a strong core of 3-4 RBs that give us options when more than one is on the line.

Despite loss of some season ticket sales. Stadium will be packed for every home game.

We won't be talking about an inordinate amount of injuries to key players because the first several games will already be decided by halftime. Gophers score early and often through the non con schedule and gives starters a rest and valuable playing time to younger players.

Michigan State will win the Big 10 Football Championship.

The Offensive Line is named the best OL in the West after the season by both the BTN and ESPN writers!

Offense:
We will score points on the second drive of every game.

Defense:
The defense will have 2 goose eggs

Special Teams:
Ryan Santoso will get an unnecessary roughness penalty
