Mack Brown not thrilled with schedule

I think his concern is with what the ACC is doing scheduling wise.

But it is weird to mention the OOC as that is .... the school's decision.

Interesting to me is he sounds pretty concerned about the first two games and then just kinda goes and "oh ya....we play Minnesota too"

He's probably correct. There's no headline game in there with a preseason top 10, but it's three difficult games against winning programs, including 2 strong P5 bowl teams from the prior season. That's more than almost anyone else is doing.

He also leaves out the Campbell Camels in early November. Like the SEC they sweep their November FCS game under the rug, hoping to make people forget those conferences only play 8 league games instead of 9 like the other 3 P5 conferences do.

Gophers schedule by comparison is really similar. And everyone universally is saying it’s a really tough schedule.

UNC series was announced back in April 2018. Certainly Fleck had to bless the matchup and did.

Brown was hired at UNC in Nov 2018, so unlikely he had any input on it.

Most 2022 computer rankings would consider Minnesota the most difficult game of the three for North Carolina. Minnesota would have been a favorite @UNC if there was one more game in January. This is before Minnesota is customarily transported back to the mid-30s to start 2023.

While on the topic of North Carolina, one thing that has surprised me about that program is that there's not a bigger rivalry between them and South Carolina.

I understand they're in different conferences and the in-state games (Clemson and NC State) would be bigger, but still, they played in a bowl game a couple years back and play again this year and doesn't seem to be much hype about those match ups.

Yeah, there was no slight towards MN intended in his comment. It is definitely a tough non-conf schedule.

Both were in the SoCon from the 1920’s until the start of the ACC in the 50’s.

South Carolina left to be Independent in the 70’s, and joined the SEC in 1991 I believe.

Guessing there was some bad blood and not many games played since the split?

Yeah, I understand the response but my point was that his other OOC games are against regional rivals. Losing to App State is somewhat analogous to Minnesota losing to NDSU

I wouldn't want to play the Gophers either in the non-conference. It's almost like preparing for a service academy. Most teams outside the Big 10 don't play a lot of games against teams that are going to run over 50% of the time and do so in a very physical manner.

His audience view the B1G as inferior to southern football. They would think the other two teams are better, just because they are known southern teams. Brown probably know MN will be the hardest to beat.

When we do win this game, a good chance the NC faithful will blame the schedule and not give credit to the fact that MN is a good team.

Sorry I guess I thought it was fairly self-explanatory that the point I was making is that we are a run heavy physical team outside the norm. I often forget that on this board what may appear fairly obvious to some might not get picked up on by a certain faction here.
