Mac cancels fb season

People will be in denial until it's official from the Big Ten.

Loss of all their big money out of conference games had to play into the decision...different for P5 school who make their money on conference games and tv contracts

the P5 conferences are going to be on an island very soon. If one of the P5 conferences goes, that will be it - the rest will follow like lemmings.

It'a happening. The season is slowly going away.

P5 has too much money riding....the MAC is a low budget conference. It makes much less of a problem to cancel their seasons. P5 schools exist because of football.

Because decisions to postpone or cancel will be made by the university presidents, not the athletics leaders, there is a zero percent chance the Big Ten, or any other conference, plays this fall.

How cowardly and selfish of the MAC to just quit on their fans like that. /s

I'd like to think I could muster up a chuckle between stages of sobbing if the big ten canceled football less than a week after releasing the schedule.

Huh?

It took me a second to realize this wasn't the much decorated Macalester football squad (Mac).
I will surprised if we have P5 and NFL football this fall. It's a bummer, but I think there is just too much risk.

The SEC maybe but the BIG at least, excepting NE and MSU, tries to have some academic standards.
The original comment is nonsensical. Pretty sure the schools would exist without football, or any sports.

Knowing what's going on, I've been way less excited about the possible upcoming season.

I'm at the point where even if the season happens, it's going to seem like NFL pre-season games.
Many players not playing, rosters all messed up. End results largely meaningless.

Why is this a surprise to anyone?
The MAC relies on revenue from non-conference games with P5 conferences. And those games were all canceled. It’s shocking they didn’t cancel their season a month ago.

The. B1G President’s met yesterday and the main sticking point was liability for the athletes. What would happen if a football athlete caught Covid and died? Would the University be liable?

That doesn't surprise me at all. I always thought the liability issue would be the biggest challenge and hurdle.

This is right on. They cant take any finite known risk with a student at all. Can you imagine if there was fatality? And the accusation that they knowingly took a risk? They will simply not chance it. There will be no season. And IMO I agree they shouldnt risk it. Situation sucks.

Someone always has to be to blame in our society. The ambulance chasers are all too happy to take settlements from deep—pocketed businesses and schools too cowed by the prospect of the twitter mob to fight various allegations of negligence and culpability. Some key opinion leaders, and most of the sports media are hopelessly reactive, emotional creatures. Who is the biggest personal injury attorney in the TC these days?

None of this is to say the conferences should not enact daily testing for their programs - they should. And they can. It’s the right thing to do.

If that was the case and liability really was an issue no public/private college or k-12 school could open in the fall.

Fact of the matter is when you voluntarily attend something with the option to opt out and then die of a disease you were told you could opt out because of...you don’t have a great case

Hence why so much stuff is claiming they will open
