Yes we the fans create one... Not a person on a team...
Fundraising would be making a college bass circuit tshirt and stickers and selling them...

Or approach Johnson, evenrude, etc etc and work on nil or sponsorship $$
 

Who sold Luke the motor. It sounds by his description that he recently purchased the rig. The engine part (cylinders, heads, rods ect...) of those motors last forever and I would think the previous owner knew there was a motor problem before selling it, if in fact it's new to Luke this spring.
 

Not a surprise. The older merc motors are known to be problematic. He'd be better off with any of the newer 4 strokes, mercury included. EFI is too thirsty and smoky. My yamaha runs clean.

You need sponsors. Contact Rapala, Mercury, Yamaha, Lund, etc., and get yourself some sponsorship. With the Minnesota ties, he should be set in no time.
When there are so many pressing needs with friends, family and world events to support through their trials, someone gofunding for a boat engine is pretty low on the support list. But, best wishes to Luke.
 

(pure aside, no intention to derail...)

Are electric motors/engines a thing in boating yet?
 





Luke was a great addition to this past years team and I loved rooting for him on the basketball court, but this is just wrong.

I’ve got no problem with him asking for some help. He’s a student athlete with two sports so not like he’s been sitting on the couch. He worked hard and saved up for years to get his dream boat only to have a major issue with it shortly after. Thought more here would be supportive given he is representing the gophers in two sports.

He restarted the U bass fishing team. Reads like he needs his boat to compete in tournaments, not clear if these are collegiate tournaments. I have no problem with him asking for help.

Just because you don’t want to donate doesn’t mean he can’t try to fundraise. Do you only focus on the absolute biggest thing?

My friends 9 month old son died. They had to beg (gofundme) to cover funeral costs. Sad. Should have just sold stickers!

It has nothing to do with the NCAA, it's club. Probably they have specific tournaments where you can only enter if you're a college student.

Maybe it's a thing like, if you do really well in one of those, you can get noticed by sponsored and get a sponsor to try to get on the pro bass tour?

Seriously, it would be nice if he got the U fishing team more recognition. Good luck to him. He'll get it. Would be awesome if he got NIL sponsors for the team if allowed in club sports. Don't see why not.
 

Or choose to do some different expenditures with the funeral... But I knew someone would come up with some stupid ass comparison..

Maybe choose the funeral you can afford rather than what ya want....
