Lu'Cye Patterson

He is inconsistent to be sure....but he made 2 massive plays at the end of the UCLA game, hitting the go ahead layup and then drawing the charge by beating the UCLA player to the spot he wanted to get to.

He isn't a great player but he doesn't stink either and he has come up huge a number of times for this team, especially in the second half of the season.
He maximizes his ability and isn’t afraid to make the plays when it matters most

Since Jan 1(not including last night), he's been pretty good. Shooting 44.4% from the floor and 37.5% from 3. Avg 14, 4 and 3. He was brutal in the non conference though. I don't think it's a coincidence our improvement as a team coincides with him playing better. I never thought he was as bad as he was playing in the OOC, but he's probably not quite as good as his splits since Jan 1 either. Might see a little regression, but you never know.

I've said it since earlier in the season.....Patterson is one of the few guys on the team (outside of Garcia) who's willing to drive the ball or pull up a shot. Results weren't great earlier in the season.....but you need guys on the team who are willing and able to do it.

I admit I wasn't his biggest fan during the season, I am glad to be proven wrong about his tenancy and heart.

One of the things I've never understood is the need for so many fans to take an early, quick look at a new player and feel the need to make a pronouncement (especially negative) on that players ability, fit, intangibles, ect. with-out waiting to see if said player improves, adjusts, learns the system, adapts to teammates, ect. Sometimes it's like we watch the 45 second movie trailer and believe we know the entire movie plot, including subtle back stories, character development and interaction.

Patterson is a pretty good example of a player that so many us dismissed early, with-out waiting to see if the potential was actually going to pan out. It's like we get some type of perverse joy out of being the first to predict disaster.

To be fair, he was one of the least efficient players on the team earlier in the season while also starting and playing 30 minutes a game. If he had been coming off the bench playing 20 minutes a game at that time, his struggles would have been far less noticeable. As of late though, his play has earned him every minute he's been on the floor and he certainly deserves to be starting. I feel like the frustration with Patterson early was primarily due to his production not meeting his awarded playing time.

It is just what some fans do. See it on the football side when a player doesn't star right away and you get some fans ready to give up on him even though it often takes guys multiple years out of high school to make an impact in football.

Patterson was not good early in the season and to some that means he will never be good. I don't think it is a coincidence that the team's success over the past 10 games seems to coincide with when Patterson started playing better. Garcia is the star but he can't do it alone and Patterson has been a key piece in most of the wins.

I admit I was too. But I also assumed that coach was seeing something in practice that we weren't seeing and that maybe things were taking a little longer than usual to click. Seems like we fans see the current snapshot (good, bad or average) and assume that's what the entire movie is going to be.

A fan says what they see. I for one was plenty hard on him- because he was bad. Period. He had an incredibly bad efficiency on points per shot and he was killing the offense by dribbling the mess out of the ball and Ben was letting him have big minutes to do it. Don't overthink it. Now he is playing much better and getting the due praise. Good for him for turning the corner and good for Ben for moving him in that direction.

Different style of players but we saw something very similar with Hawkins and M. Mitchell last year. They were a mess in the earlier part of the season but they figured things out and were playing at a much higher level in the second half of the season.

If Johnson ends up coming back next year he has to figure out how to get the transfers adjusted more quickly.

Perfect example a lot of people were pissed off because Hawkins left. Last year, the same people were pissed off because he was playing. DUMB

You've just described our times. This isn't the age of nuance, careful deliberation, or wait for all of the facts. Actually, I'm not sure there was ever an age for that sort of stuff when it came to sports.

He has been playing much, much better the past month + or so, but I still half cover my eyes when I see him get inside the arc, 1 on 3 or 4, and I'm just thinking, "There is no way his shot is not going up". I still question his vision.

Peaking at the right time, seems like a great locker room guy, and has that fight. Does he have one more season?

How do I search my post history? I was asking for this guy to come here when he was on Missouri State

No, this is his 5th season.

I was intrigued by him when he entered the transfer portal from Missouri State as well, partially because he was from here and partially because he made a good jump from his freshman year to his second year. I thought at the time that he might be somebody good to get as a backup. He increased his output every year in his first four years. His overall scoring average is significantly below last year at Charlotte but his scoring average in conference games this season is only about a point below his average last season.
