Losing another recruit?

as a gopher fan, i'm personally embarassed when you make statements like this. who the hell cares if we have a good recruiting class, if no one can coach them to wins? i'd trade our 39th ranked recruiting class last year (and i'm pretty sure that was with lipscomb, which took away 1 out of our 3 4stars), for their 63rd ranked recruiting class (fyi, they did have the same amount of 4 stars that we did) to go 10-2 vs. 6-6 anyday.

and yes, as gopherprof mentioned, they are beating us this year...not that it really matters, what teams do on the field is what really counts.

As a gopher fan I'm personally embarassed when you make disparaging remarks about the gopher program and it's recruiting prowess.

Sadly nothing he said is false, you just don't like it. Facing reality is not disparaging the program and as far as the recruiting prowess there are legitimate concerns. Assuming Seantrel does not commit to the gophers then Brewster will have lost the top ranked recruit in-state 3 years in a row and even more discouraging will have only gotten 2 of the 6 most sought after players in-state this year. He got Gjere and Edwards but appears likely to lose out on Allen, Henderson, Okuyemi, and Tarpley. 2 out of 6 is not good for a supposed super recruiter.

I'm a Gopher fan, so I'm going to spin it my way...we got 2 of the top 3.

But to your point, I am not concerned about our recruiting prowess one bit. That is the very least of my concerns. I don't really blame Brewster for losing Henderson. He is a complete anomoly for this state and it would have been almost impossible to keep him here.

Brewster really lost two recruiting battles. He lost the battle for Allen and for Okuyemi. It would have been really nice to add one of those two DL, but they are probably the lesser recruits than Gjere and Edwards. It is almost impossible to gauge a kid's reasons for leaving. Maybe it was something Brewster couldn't do, or maybe these kids just wanted to go away for school.

My thinking is this, I hope the Gopher program gets to a point where it is an oddity for us to ever lose anyone we want in-state, however I do realize that in prior years we likely wouldn't have kept Gjere or Edwards either. When we face the facts, we are an average Big 10 team (slightly less), with a coach who doesn't seem to have job security, and we no longer can throw out guranteed PT right away (like in YR. 2), and have put maybe 3 kids in the NFL in the last two years. I think with those facts as they are, the fact that Sconny and Iowa arent blowing us out of the water on the recruiting trail speaks to Brewster's ability to recruit. As far as his ability to develop players, I guess we'll see (and i'm far less confident).

I'll throw out my guess about DW. Could be NCAA clearinghouse problems.
As signing day gets closer more things are disclosed and things like this and the kid goes to the SEC.

While he likely had other reasons for looking around, maybe the Gopher staff contacted him about greyshirting and he wasn't open to that route. It seems to me that with the current rate of a couple commitments per week the staff would probably be exploring greyshirt possibilities.

Just a shot in the dark......he probably just is looking for a different fit.

miles and gophergod are not gopher fans. read their posts and most everything is negative or how our team sucks or how we arent recruiting good players anymore. losers

not gopher fans? do you think i'd still be on this board if i wasn't a gopher fan? you think i'd go all the games just to waste my money and time if i wasn't a fan? and yes, there is lot to complain about. i'm sorry if i said that i'd rather have wins that top ranked recruiting classes, would you rather have iowa this year (with a lower ranked class) or us, 10-2 vs. 6-6? never said we aren't recruiting any good players anymore, simply stated the trends of our classes.

we went from a rivals rank of #17 to #39 to #38 so far this year...and out of the 25 listed, we have 0 5 stars, 3 4 stars. 22 of our recruits are 3 star or lower. those are facts. do you beg to differ?

quite honestly, brewster put himself in this situation, it's all about the johnnies and joe's, and not the x's and o's...so when you put the focus on recruiting, and your classes are mediocre, and your coaching is less than mediocre, you are going to get some criticism. i'm glad you're happy being 6-6 though, wish i was.

I don't know if you're a gopher fan or not. But it appears like you're just a guy that goes to gopher games to find something to complain about. I don't consider that being a fan, but perhaps you define being a fan diferently than I do.

LOL! These responses are so predictable.

Brew sings a 2* player he;s a "diamond in the rough" or a "sleeper" or a "hidden gem of the 20__ class"

That player opens up his recruitment because he possiblt could be getting better offers, he all of a sudden sucks and is not a big loss.

LOL!

I agree, but thank heaven they're not as predictable as your biting criticism.
