Regardless of who’s under center, 2023 will mark a new era in Fleck’s tenure with the Gophers. Morgan and All-American center John Michael Schmitz have been constant presences on Fleck’s Gophers. Both were originally committed to Western Michigan before following the coach to Minnesota in 2017. Running back Mohamed Ibrahim is also out of eligibility after rushing for 4668 yards over his career. Like Morgan and Schmitz, his six years in maroon and gold spanned Fleck’s entire tenure.

The Gophers also have a new co-offensive coordinator with Kirk Ciarrocca leaving for Rutgers in January. Greg Harbaugh Jr., previously Minnesota’s tight ends coach, now shares the position with receivers coach Matt Simon.

Receiver Chris Autman-Bell returned for his seventh season after his 2022 ended with a torn ACL in Week 3. When healthy, he’s provided a deep threat to a consistently quality Gopher receiver room that has seen Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson go onto the NFL in recent years.

For Nebraska, Minnesota serves as a potential model for its upcoming rebuild. Fleck, like Rhule, had a proven track record of building a program when he took over the Gophers in 2017. Fleck’s Western Michigan and Rhule’s Baylor were both 1-11 in their respective first seasons.

Go Gophers!!
