Limegrover and Kill

here's my question. if limegrover has been with kill since emporia state, what has changed when they got to the big ten? they have always had good offenses, right? so how have things changed?

The level of competition. I think the recruiting is fine and there has been turnover and key injuries (which was mentioned previously in the thread), but Limegrover doesn't seem to have a feel for the passing game and that is going to be necessary to succeed consistently at this level. Part of that is the current QB situation.

Let's all be honest with ourselves.....the most successful this team has been under Coach Kill, was when he wasn't coaching the team.

4 conference wins, all with Claeys at the helm.

The offense was exciting, the defense stingy....we won, and it was fun. Even our two wins over cupcakes this year were barely fun.

You really think Kill wasn't calling the shots? The only game he wasn't in the box at was Michigan - so maybe that was they only measure of Claeys as HC? That is as silly as your take.

I still feel we don't recruit passers. Nelson, Streveler, McKinzy, Croft, etc are all Running QBs with an emphasis on the Running. Just like Lynch at Northern IL, we want a guy who runs first. The problem is we have developed more a power-running game with OL recruits we are getting now, and we aren't as well suited to run the QB, plus they want to limit QB injuries now of trying to run the QB every week in the B1G. No one can pass and the development of these running QBs as passers isn't there. I still believe Leidner was big and athletic enough to take in the class with Nelson to be TE or H-back. They never expected him to need to be the QB as a sophomore if ever.

Our D line is banged up....Our O line is no where as good as advertised.....We haven't had a QB since Kill has been here.

I have never like our offensive scheme.......and even with that the play calling is very questionable.

As bad as the Big Ten is right now, 4 conference wins is nothing to hang your hat on.

That's what I've been trying to tell people... but they still swear Kill was coaching even though he wasn't on the sidelines. But anyone can tell how different the team was when Kill was out. And of course when Kill came back... we laid eggs, including the Bowl Game. Is it Kill? I think it's more that Kill and Limegrover are on the same level for Offense... and Claeys seemed more aggressive.

My response to that would be, do you really think Claeys had much to do with the game planning of the offense? Of course we don't know for sure, but I'm guessing they each handled their own sides of the ball, and Claeys just added the head coaching duties (addressing the team, deciding to punt/go for it, etc.). Since Claeys had his defense to worry about, I can't imagine he had much to do with what was going on on offense. It's not like Claeys just gave up being a D-coordinator.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems logical to me.

Maybe Limegrover should be HC? I know that isn't your point, but is no dumber than folks who think Kill had no coaching duties during our 4-game win streak.
