Got to start a thread about him. He has no knack for calling plays, getting the D off kilter or putting together any sort of gameplan that gives us a chance to win against the better teams. Our very seasoned OL seems to be getting worked over in said games, as well. Why are our splits so small? Do he and coach Z have the ability to get the most out of their QBs? Maybe more importantly, do our players have any confidence in his abilities to put them in the best possible position to succeed.

Regarding Jerry, does he have any ability to get the fellas ready to play out of the box. We probably have set some sort of record for not scoring a TD on our first possession and overall we've very seldom on his watch come out flying. Will he put a boot upside Limey's surically reduced backside and let him know that what he's doing here isn't going to cut it; much like his boy Patterson did with his guys after last year where he sent them packing?

Kill, Limegrover, Zebrowski have really done nothing to prove they know how to develop offensive players and put a realy offense on the field. All the things Kill does off the field are great and Claeys is the real deal but more than half the time the past two years our O has really, really stunk up the place.

The offense is worse than it ever was under Brewster, just awful. The defense is there now but we have an FBS basement of an offense. Mason's offense mixed with this defense would be wonderland.

Agree.

Of my many complaints, I could not believe the way we gave up at the end of the first half. If we push it, score a TD, get a stop and a quick score to open the second, all of a sudden it is a game. He was playing to keep the score from getting out of hand when he should have been playing to win the game. I thought that was a pathetic and gutless way to end the half.

It's year four for this staff. Our offense should be significantly better than it is. There are no more excuses allowed. Something will need to change if things don't get better in a hurry.

Thing is, I believe we have some real weapons on O. But our QB situation, play calling, and OC have sucked. We need new ideas and coaching on the O-side. Jerry has a tough decision to make.....but he's paid a lot to make them. I don't feel Jerry is the problem unless his loyalty fogs his judgement.

Let's not forget the turnaround within the program of WR's and QB's we've had more people leaving, and not making grades than a lot of teams. Hard to win if it's always Freshman, Sophmore's and 2 star replacements. Tough loss but we will be fine.

Does anyone think we play to many WR's and RB's? No flow to the players at all.

here's my question. if limegrover has been with kill since emporia state, what has changed when they got to the big ten? they have always had good offenses, right? so how have things changed?

So many on GH love the longevity of the coaching staff. I care only about the performance of the team over several years.
Have the wheels of this bus fallen off?

Playing in the Big Ten is a lot differen't from where they played beforehand. You can throw in Northern Illinois and their success but what took them a few years to turn that around there, will take twice as long in the Big Ten, if ever.

This was a case of getting whipped by a better team. In every way. Both lines...got whipped. Their D backs were much faster than our receivers. Their receivers were much better than our coverage. Finally, our QB was just a mess. We've got a pretty good team, but we cannot compete against a team a good as TCU. Fortunately, we're in the Big 10.

I don't believe that for a second. Our D is able to match up with them and did a decent job under terrible circumstances. Our OL has no excuses if they can't match up with these guys then we're training them incorrectly in the offseason, coaching them incorrectly overall or scheming incorrectly because they should be able to play with these guys. Our QB situation is a mess, but our game plan on O sucks a$$ and gives our guys very little chance to succeed.

To continue where I left off. Today we saw what happens when well coached highly recruited athletes play well coached athletes recruited by Indiana and MAC schools.

Exactly. It's about the Jimmies and the Joe's when both schools have competent coaching.

B.S. again. Our guys have enough potential to play with these guys but came out flat, had turnovers and were put in horrible positions to try and succeed on the O side of the ball.

.

No they don't, the talent and especially speed differences between these two teams were pretty obvious.

I was thinking the same thing. We rotate WRs darn near every play. You watch other teams and they keep the guys in there if they are making catches, not pull them every time they make a play. Maybe they are too tired after making that five yard run after the catch!

There are pros and cons to coaching staffs that have been together a long time. Pros are they gel and know each others styles and personalities, but the cons are there is no innovation and change. The O is boring = milk and cookies. This isn't 1970. We will occasionally win against a few tough teams, but will never get over the hump and beat the top teams with this very predictable offense.

+1. We're not even close to that level.

I don't know our D I think runs as well as their D. There O was fast, but didn't overwhelm us. Jones and Edwards were woefully underutilized today we ran about half the plays right behind our right guard don't need speed for that.

Pretty much agree with your takes today, but the athletic talent difference was obvious. Probably the perfect storm due to recruiting success, better game planning and superior decision making on the field. Potential doesn't count for much on game day.

Maybe my fondness for our D and Claeys clouds my thinking I just thought even in a lost cause we had guys flying around out there. I think our D would be the heck out of out O, too.

I don't think it is that uncommon though. Maybe this is because they got a big lead, but TCU had 7 different WR's have a catch today and they rotated a bunch of RB's in as well.

Anybody see ONE SINGLE jet-sweep called? Ever? Even once this whole game?
Is it just too 'flashy' for Kill's 'old school, smash-mouth football' style? It's
udderly f****** ridiculous that they won't call it once. Last two times they
did it was to Fruechte and he fumbled both times.

The Gophers offense looked bad against TCU - no doubt about it. But, remember when Northern Illinois came into MN and ran all over the Gophs a few years ago - that was a team coached by Kill with Limegrover running the offense, and they looked great.

I can see a couple of possibilities - 1. The coaches kept the game plan simple to "protect" Leidner. 2. The gophs looked bad because TCU is faster and has better athletes. 3. Kill and Limegrover are deliberately trying to lose games. (sarcasm) 4. The coaches are keeping the "real" offense under wraps until the conference season. 5. The Gophers' players butts were sore after getting a "whupping" from Adrian Peterson. 6. Wren ticked off an old Gypsy woman who put a curse on the Gophers. 7. It's Obama's fault. 8. It's the Tea Party's fault. 9. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.

FBS basement? This offense is FCS middle of the road at best. I have no doubt we'd lose to the top 10 FCS teams. This offense is the embarrassment of college football. Kill should hire some offensive specialist consultants NOW!!

Let's all be honest with ourselves.....the most successful this team has been under Coach Kill, was when he wasn't coaching the team.

4 conference wins, all with Claeys at the helm.

The offense was exciting, the defense stingy....we won, and it was fun. Even our two wins over cupcakes this year were barely fun.

That's what I've been trying to tell people... but they still swear Kill was coaching even though he wasn't on the sidelines. But anyone can tell how different the team was when Kill was out. And of course when Kill came back... we laid eggs, including the Bowl Game. Is it Kill? I think it's more that Kill and Limegrover are on the same level for Offense... and Claeys seemed more aggresive.
