Good theory, SS. But there are two huge problems with it:
1) Tubby's offense has been woefully incapably of setting the necessary screens to free Blake up for the last three seasons. "Run Blake off screens" is pretty basic, and if they haven't figured it out by now, it doesn't seem to reasonable to expect them to get it in the next three months; and
2) I have never seen an offense that has a much difficulty getting the ball into the post in a position where the big man can do anything with it.
The perimiter players (espescially Al) need a handwritten invitation before they'll consider it. Last night in the second half, Al just dribbled up top and looked away from Ralph when the big guy was being guarded by Jordan Hulls who is generously listed at 6-0. And there was no help D to be found that Al needed to worry about. Unfortunately, as is all too common, Al was incapable of getting him the ball.
The same thing happened earlier in the game when Ralph had it up top and Mbakwe was being defended by a guard. Ralph can make the pass into the post in that set as he and Colton ran it a lot down the strech last year. But last night, he just looked Mbakwe off and harmlessly passed it around the perimeter on the wing.
This is inexcusable when your PG and SG are seniors, and each of your post players is a junior. For some reason, however, it continues to happen all the time. Lots of catcalls from our section (myself included) of "Get him the damn ball" as we watched our post players establish position on the block, only to have the perimeter player look right at them and then just pass the ball around the three-point line for 20 seconds of the shot clock. So frustrating.
