I’m not sure if he gets drafted or not, but he’s the type of guy I can envision having a long NFL career as a backup LB/Special Teams ace. Ala Pete Bercich for the Vikings.

He and Pinkney fit right in and were big time additions. Gibbens? It just feels like he was meant to be a Gopher.
We just haven't had the big hitters who can run like that often. I'm a little worried about linebacker next year. What is the plan?

I thought from the moment he committed that he would be an impact player. Guy's just played too much football to not be able to slide in almost seamlessly to being a major contributor for the Gophers.

This depends quite a bit on MSM.

If he comes back, he will continue to play the position he has played a ton over the last 3 seasons. The other LB spot could be interesting. Oliver played a ton the last couple of weeks (often subbing in for Jack Gibbens on passing downs). Willis has played quite a bit and Burns has shown in moments.

I think we are in a position to take anyone we think could really help us in the portal, but LBer is a spot I feel much better about after seeing Oliver the last couple of weeks.

Oliver is a senior, though. I would hope he comes back.

MSM should be back.

Oliver is a SO.
On rivals, they list him as a senior.

I've looked at 3 different gopher sites, one lists him as a sophomore, the other as a junior, and the other as a senior. What the hell? LMAO

He's big, strong, and physical. It just sucks we only could have him for one year.
Would love to have him back. That's kind of the tough thing about the portal - the players are here and gone so quickly.
Maybe we can find Gibbens 2.0?

I think they got confused with his injury and the COVID year.

It's strange, for some people, they just don't even bring up with 2020 season and for some people they use it as a tally.

2018 - RS
2019 - FR
2020 - COVID year (didn't play because of injury)
2021 - SO

However, if you look at like Thomas Rush:

2017 - RS
2018 - FR
2019 - SO
2020 - JR
2021 - SR (with an extra year because of COVID).

So sometimes they refer to people as a class back because of COVID and sometimes they don't. In terms of eligibility, there isn't much difference between a SO or a JR with an extra year because of COVID, but it does make it confusing at times.

Maybe we can find Gibbens 2.0?

I think Cody Lindenberg could be Gibbens 2.0. He was forced to play last year as a true freshman when he wasn't physically ready.

He got huge this last offseason and redshirted this year.

Because of the way this shakes out, he will be a FR next year. He's going to play a lot of football for us in the coming years.

He was a rock this year. Just that kind of LB who's number shows up every time the pile is broken up. Some guys just have that instinct to be around the ball.

Great attitude and player. He would’ve been for sure a NFL high round player if he would’ve been in our culture for another year.

During the presser, he said he’s heading back to TX where he’s from but not sure to train for the NFL level or hang up his hat.

He’s got a ton of potential for the next level.

Forgot about him. Did he redshirt due to an injury or just because he wouldn’t play much?

Injury I think I heard. I forgot how stoked I was about him after the spring game. He looked huge and fast. He was making tons of plays all over the field.
