I hope we run a few less predictable plays in certain areas. I know during the regular season there may not have been a viable option if Morgan got hurt so they didn't run him hardly at all. However, in the bowl game I would like to see him keep the ball once in a while to keep the defense honest.

The same thing when Green does the wildcat. He used to be a QB. Would like to see him throw out of it once in a while to keep those linebackers from committing immediately. Could be a big play.

Certainly GT last year found us using new parts of the playbook...

Wish we would have done that against Iowa or Wisconsin. Biggest games of our lifetimes would have been a decent play to try something - instead we punted on fourth and short from the opponents 35.

Not holding my breath for the bowl game.

agreed. It was like PJ began to believe MN could just 'show up' and win.

The fun trick play once in a while would be fun. See. a lot of teams throwing them out there, H.S, college and the pros.

I love trick plays and they are forever the hope of the underdog, but the rub on them is that usually only good teams can block long enough for these slow developing plays to happen. If a team can win the LOS then they just play it straight and win anyway

Trick plays are ok... once in a while. If you need them to win because you can't execute the plays you know you should you've probabbly already lost.

Green gets a first down or scores on a pretty high % of his runs.... you saying we should not do that?

Mason's "trick play" onside kick to kickoff the game against Penn State TWO YEARS IN A ROW is my favorite of all time!!

Not asking for a trick play. Just a pass to a RB or a TE. Or our QB passing from wildcat. Or not punting on fourth and short from opponents 35.

I think we should abandon our system and run a completely different offense

I see teams quite often try a trick play. Again ... it keeps teams honest. Just a couple come to mind ... every year the Patriots use those plays. Oklahoma seems to come up with those types of plays and he is considered an offensive genius. A silly response to say that by adding a few plays that you throw out the playbook. So not biting on that.

As far as Green never passing out of the wildcat ... It would be more successful if they changed it up once in a while. If you are saying our offense was hitting on all cylinders during all our games you are mistaken.
We lived and died many times on the long pass. I am not sure we can make it long term on that type of offense. I love the fact that they opened that part of the playbook. I think there are other things they can do to open the playbook up. If you think they don't have these things in the playbook I would say you are wrong.

You don't know that....

The most frustrating thing was the seeming predictability of run plays. At times it seemed as though they understood that they had to give away downs (1 or 2 yard pick ups) in order to keep the defense honest.

I think the run side of the RPO will look much better with Ibrahim and Williams getting the carries. Smith was more of an "is what he is" type of guy that wasn't going to break tackles or manufacture too much beyond what the line opened up for him. Line is back next year as well so the recipe for success on the ground is there.

PJ Fleck has been coaching for only seven years compared to some of his counterparts. Clearly, they were out coached against Wisconsin and Iowa. Failure is growth. They are learning, and will get better if these coaching staff stay together for a while.

Yes I do and so do you .... every team has those things in their playbook. They just decide to use them or not.

Smith on more than one occasion made something out of nothing and was very good at finding small creases to get yards other RB's we had missed. Rodney will be missed

I hope they are learning, because I worry they will play it safe, especially with breaking in some new guys for next year. Another is don't show too much for next year or do it like they did versus Wisconsin in 2017 and didn't try since they knew we were over-matched.
