Here's Leach's first interview after his firing. He certainly doesn't beat around the bush...

It's always a terrible sight to see a grown man calling out a kid. Good thing he took the high road on that one.
He was a sophomore last year. He was probably 19, 20 at the oldest. At that age he's closer to a kid than anything else. Do you remember being 19?
The whole interview sounds like Leach whining about being fired. If you believe others on this board, the James incident wasn't even the reason Leach was fired. It was more of an excuse to fire him. The administration had grown tired of his antics and jumped on this opportunity to end terminate the relationship or so I have read.
I have no problem calling out a "kid."
If said "kid" makes up a lie that costs me my job, I am going to come out with what I consider the truth too. Is he supposed to just say no comment and take his unjust firing?
Has it been proven that James lied? If it has then I retract everything that I have said.
In the interview he actually whines about his father more than he whines about Adam James.
Adam James was a lazy player who didn't give effort in practice and felt he was entitled to something. They treated him in a way that they hoped would change his attitude. His father became meddlesome, and instead of helping his sons situation, he worsened it. IN the end the family came up with a story that cost Leach his job.
You may be correct that they were sick of his antics, but without this incident (that may or may not have been anything close to what was described when originally heard) they had absolutely no grounds to fire him. That is why Leach is going to most likely receive a settlement worth most of his contract from TTech when it is all said and done. That is why Leach will likely receive a settlement from ESPN before that case ever hits the courts.
You're right on one account.. That Tech was looking for a reason to can Leach. The James incident landed in their lap and they took advantage.
That being said, you need to watch Friday Night Lights the series. In season 3, I think, watch how the McCoy's interact with coach Taylor. In case you missed it, basically the McCoys are a family with a highly talented QB and an overbearing father. Throughout the season, even the his kid is only a freshman, the elder McCoy is on the HC's case about his son starting in place of the teams current QB. That is the exact crap that Leach had to deal with in James.

There are parents like this all over the country. If Leach had one regret in all of his tenure at Texas Tech, it probably wouldn't have been how he dealt with this whole situation, it probably would have been offering Adam James a scholarship.
I've never seen people so obsessed with a coach before. Seriously guys, there's a reason he doesn't seem to be considered for these jobs. I'd bet that Maturi and others know more about what went on at TT than any of us.

Has it been proven that Mike Leach locked him in a shed? (Which is how ESPN reported it).
They don't have to prove James lied. They are not accusing James of anything. It was james who accused Leach of something. And other than his word (that runs contrary to the word of others) there is no proof of anything close to that.
"Innocent until proven guilty" applies to Leach in this situation, not James. James has not been accused of anything.
My statement was in response to you saying that you would have no problem calling out a kid who lied to get you fired and not referring to the burden of proof in a legal situation. All I was saying, is that if James did in fact lie about the situation that would change my opinion. I thought maybe you had info to prove that he was lying.
If it did happen, and there appears to be evidence (James video and player reactions to firing) that it did occur, then he should have been fired.

I'm by no means condoning Craig James' actions. Parents all over the country think they have to step in because they feel their kid is getting screwed. It happens from the first time kids play a sport. It's absolutely ridiculous that parents act like that regarding their kids athletic endeavors. This isn't a new occurrence, every coach puts up with it. That doesn't make it alright to supposedly lock a kid in a shed.

Leach obviously believes he was unjustly fired and is innocent. I have no problem with him coming out with his version of the truth (which is what I said) even if it means talking down about a "kid" who made an accusation that cost the man his job. You claimed that I said James was lying. I never said I knew James was lying.
Have you seen the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZqvajnhZDU&feature=relatedIf that isn't proof that he was locked in I don't know what is. I have heard more former players come out in support of Leach than against him. In fact, other than James, I didn't hear anyone come out against Leach in reaction to his firing.
This article discusses essentially what we are discussing here. This article has 2 players speaking up on James' side. It also has Wes Welker in support of Leach.
1. There's a forum for him to state his case. ESPN is not that forum. If he believes he was wrongly fired, file a lawsuit (which he obviously did), which in turn creates a forum for stating his case. Making those statements on ESPN make him look bitter and immature.
2. I have seen the video and it appears to me that would be acceptable evidence that he was locked in a room.

It doesn't appear that it was a lie that cost him his job.
1) you forgot to post the article
2) You can say it makes him seem bitter and immature, but fact of the matter is, if he is quiet, the story ESPN reported is assumed as true (as shown by you). This is the exact reason why he is suing ESPN.
3) I hope you are never on a jury of any kind.
So a kid shows a video of him in a "dark room" and forced to stand, then turns on the light pans around the room, shows chairs in the room, and you consider it acceptable evidence that supports the claim that he was locked in a shed and forced to stand? WOW
All this at the same time when the training staff said that there was never any lock and he was being monitored by the training staff?
If you are ever on the jury, the person who is being accused is screwed royally.
4) Are you honestly arguing that the James incident wasn't what cost Leach his job? Leach has claimed that he never locked James in a shed. "Locking him in a shed" what is the root cause of why he lost his job, whether it was the direct cause or not. So he has every right to share his side of the story, ESPECIALLY if it contradicts the accusations against him, and even if it causes him to badmouth a "kid" on TV.

You claimed that I said James was lying. I never said I knew James was lying. I basically said evidence pointed towards the fact that the truth that was reported on ESPN was not necessarily the truth of what happened.
