The word I am hearing is that Josh Oglesby will commit to Iowa on Wednesday. He visited Arizona State this past weekend and Minnesota the previous weekend. Minnesota was hoping to land a shooter with the graduation loss of Blake Hoffarber. However, they missed on Paul Jesperson and now Oglesby. Josh grew up an Iowa fan and with Cedar Rapids being so close, they were hard to beat. Minnesota has plenty of guards, which might have hurt them with Coleman, Joseph, Hollins and Ahanmisi on the roster and they are also recruiting Tharpe and Hollins.

Andre Hollins is a superb outside shooter.

Will not say we did not want him - obviously, Tubby did, since he recruited him. Good for Josh to get to play for his dream team.

Iowa needs the help (I do not hate Iowa).

Funny, the Iowa posters wanted Ross Travis, too. But Ross would not even visit. Like Wisconsin wanted Trent Lockett, but Trent did not give them a chance. The teams you like (and hate) as a child leave a lasting impression.

I don't usually wish recruits who pick other schools good luck, but in this case I will. He's going to need all the luck he can get while at Iowa.

It will be interesting to match up Oglesby against whoever the Gophers land with our other scholarship. I would guess we would get the better end of that trade, but it would have been nice to add a shooter.

Don't rule out Austin Keel (out of Florida) as a shooter extraordinaire. Not highly rated (in terms of Scout or Rivals) but he can shoot Lights Out from deep.

In other words, be prepared for option 4 again this year?

I learned to read in the 1950's. You should try it.

He's primarily a shooter. An outstanding one.

Usually when someone doesn't actually know something as fact and they are just going by someone else's word, they use words such as "according to" or "supposedly." I suppose using the words "according to" would give someone else credit though and wouldn't let you sound as knowledgeable on the situation like you are so desperate to be.

Maybe you should give it a try sometime though. If all else fails you can just post your resume and tell us how incredibly smart and successful you are. Throw in your salary and bonuses and we'll all think so very highly of you once again.

Read about him. Watch the video clips. I have. YOU should try it.

Just Google "Austin Keel" and you'll get articles and video clips.

Gopher fans would you rather have Brewster fired or FOT banned?

We all enjoy Tubby as the coach here, but the constant apologizing by FOT is getting old. Every time Tubby misses on a recruit, the next guy is just as good. We miss on Joseph and get Mav and everything is just fine. We miss on Jesperson and Oglesby...no problem a new guy we never heard of is just as good. My question is this, if the fall back guys are just as good, why wasn't Tubby on them from day one?

I was a darn good shooter in high school. I think I once made 8 straight 3's in a game. That doesn't mean I should have played for the Gophers or any other D1 school.

Great shooters are a dime-a-dozen. They need additional skill sets to play in the Big Ten.

Saying someone is an outstanding shooter in high school = BFD.

what is Blake Hoffarber, but a great great shooter? Or Kyle Korver, Mike Miller, etc. but just great shooters?

I don't believe any of those guys are "lock-down" defenders. Or have great drives. or are great ball handlers or finish at the rim with ease or ... well, you get the idea.

Chris is the only one reporting this so far, excellent scoop but I still hope your wrong! Even the Iowa message boards are referencing this post.

Enough now with immature namecalling and personal attacks.

It appears that many of you are somehow personally threatened by those who have an opinion that is different than yours and you respond to that percieved threat by attempting to discredit your oposition, or impune their motives, or remove them from the discourse. You ridicule and besmirch and don't accept that someone can think differently and still be credible. You also appear to gain courage from joining with like minded individuals because you then have power. That's called 'groupthink' or 'mob mentality'.

Debate is healthy and informative only if all opinions are heard.

SO GROW UP

There are some good points made there. Clipped from Rivals this summer:

Johnathan Holton is a face up power forward worth watching in from the Sunshine State. Holton doesn't have much of a mid-range game, but he can really shoot it from three, and also showed an ability to finish above the rim. At 6-foot-8 he has long arms and good size, and if he can improve facing the rim off the dribble he stock could absolutely explode.

Shooter alert is out for Austin Keel. Keel can absolutely shoot it from deep. To be fair that is all he showed, but it is a good skill to have. Keel isn't much outside of a catch and shoot guy, and is a liability on defense, but if his feet are set and gets a clean look, just book it because it is going to be three points.

School Lists

Jonathan Holton has interest from Rice, Tennessee, Indiana, Minnesota, East Carolina, Miami, and Florida.

Austin Keel is hearing from Texas Tech, Minnesota, Rice, ECU, Iowa, Lafayette, and Richmond.

Speaking of Blake in particular, he's a good rebounder for someone his size, he can handle the ball (evidence in Tubby asking him to play some point and get the offense started last year), he's got a very quick release on his shot and can get it off with athletes flying at him trying to block it, and he's got good basketball instincts.

Blake is more than a catch and shoot player. Catch and shoot players are a dime-a-dozen, filling the D2 and D3 ranks.

Mike Miller was an excellent all-around player at Florida.

Lee Humphrey at Florida is EG of Catch & Shoot guard. He helped Gators win 2 NC.

Cameron Mills was nothing but Catch & Shoot guard at UK. He helped Cats win NC in 1998.

Sometimes there's a role for Catch & Shoot guards. Steve Kerr and John Paxson played that role for Chicago Bulls in 1990's.

I consider a quick release and getting your shot off to be requirements of a great shooter. That may be why there is/was disagreement. You definitely need those skills to succeed in college hoops.

Yep. His basketball IQ is also very high, which allows him to play some PG despite his obvious athletic deficiencies. He's also an excellent passer (on the perimeter, primarily).
