It would be interesting to know what the score was at the four minute mark for the Gophers last ten games. Amazingly, we didn't get blown out once in the midst of this streak (OSU was close to a blow out). We were in damn near every game down to the end. Testament to the importance of good guard play at the end of games.

The Gophers were clearly more talented than a lot of the teams they lost to during this stretch. I can't point to one game that was lost solely due to guard play. Many of these games were won if the Gophers simply controlled the defensive glass late, much less made a free throw or scored a basket.

I posted this on a different thread today:

We went 0-7 in BTT games without Al when the score was +/- 5 with under 5 minutes to go
(@ Indiana, Illinois, @ Penn St, Michigan St, Michigan, @ Northwestern, Penn St)

I just glanced through all of the ESPN game flows, so I can't GUARANTEE that's correct, but it just goes to show we couldn't finish a game this season.

I really think that the officials can and very very often do determine which team prevails. I recall the disgust I felt when Robert Knight was the consistent benefactor of officials judgement calls and I sense the same thing is now happening to limit Tubby's success.

I have come to beleive that some of the individual officials have become corrupted. Whether officiating bias is used to acquire praise and admiration, professional standing, satisfaction in demonstrating power, or some form of pay. I don't know. IHMO the ultimate victor in any game can be, and frequently is, known by some on the floor official(s) before the toss up.

This year they don't like Colton Iverson and I feel they have unjustly limited his carreer to some extent.
