We have all debated about whether he will be a RB or a LB. However, does anyone think his destination might end up being DE?

I remember reading that article about Gary Patterson that someone posted on here a few days ago and how he recruited athletes and made them into certain positions. They had listed a couple of his RB recruits who turned out to be All Conference/All American DEs (Jerry Hughes). Someone else posted (not sure if it is true), something about Kill using the same philosophy with his DEs.

When he was describing his RB recruits who were flipped into DEs, he talked about guys who were kind of large RBs (Jerry Hughes was 6'1", 200 lbs in HS), who he had bulk up and simply fly up field.

Any chance this is Lamonte Edwards destiny?

Hilarious. Somebody posted last week that they thought his best position would be safety. So far we have this kid playing RB, FB, LB, SS and DE.

I vote for no more Gary Patterson references

It worked for Becky!

J.J. Watt certainly added to his frame to become an outstanding lineman for Becky. In the 90's, I remember Tarek Saleh (sp?) who was very slight, but nonetheless, a beast who could definitely rush the passer.
Remember Jermaine Mays? He was a speedy wide receiver during the Mason era. He started becoming effective blocking kicks and I know they lined him up at defensive end in passing situations. Mason said he wished he would have done it sooner. Plus, some of our best recent pass rushers have been good athletes that added a few pounds over the years. I'm thinking of Karon Riley, Lamanzer Williams and Willie Vandesteeg.
Not enough said.

It will be interesting where Edwards ends up playing. He's a good enough athlete that they are going to have to find a place for him on the field if they don't believe he can stay at RB. DE, LB, or S could all be possibilities.

This is especially true with Northern Illinois as well. If you look at their DEs, most of them were HS (LB/DEs and QB/RB/WR).

Next year Lamonte Edwards will be our starting....

kicker!

I seem to recall that Lamonte Edwards was looking good as a running back up until he sprained his ankle. Why would he be moved when he is a legitimate big back prospect? The only reason he redshirted was because of the time lost in learning the system.

I'm sure Kill and Patterson have talked a lot about football strategy. I understand they are close friends. Kill said that he was best man at Pattersons wedding. So it would not suprise me if Kill likes undersized, quick defensive ends who used to play running back.

He is way too heavy for safety. Imagine John Clay or Shonn Greene at DB. Lamonte is that type of big back. If not RB his position would be LB or even DE.

Lamonte was more of a big time prospect in general and not specifically to the RB position. In fact both scout and rivals list him at (ATH or OLB/RB). It's not like people are talking about moving Kirkwood to DE.

If you look at his DEs at Northern Illinois, they all played FB/QB/RB/WR on offense. A lot of them played S / OLB on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't understand the obsession with trying to move Lamonte Edwards to a different position. He hasn't even played a down for this team. He's the only running back currently on the team with the frame of a Big Ten running back. Let's give him a chance to prove himself before everyone decides he can't hack it and he needs to move to a different position.

Except Kirkwood, Bennett, and Eskridge.

They are about the same size as Edwin Baker, James White, Adam Robinson and D. Herron (4 of the top 6 rushers in the Big 10).

Any indications about where Wright is in his development? and/or status with the team?

I keep hearing that he is going to be on the team next season, but there seems to be a lot of whispers that he won't.

There seems to be a certain amount of mystery surrounding his status.

I heard Horton talking about him in an interview and he said he may end up at DB. I took that to mean he should be good to go in January.

Oh nice, I wasn't sure if he was going to be part of our future or not. I remember Brew saying that he might be a WR as well (I think it was Brew).
