I've heard a lot of talk about RB vs. LB. How about Safety? He could be one hell of a physical, tall, fast safety in the mold of Sean Taylor (R.I.P.) Fast enough to cover a lot of ground, physical enough to blow up the run, tall enough to go up and get it. My only fear, is not having the lateral quickness and the quick reaction times needed. Thoughts?

might work. i never really even thought about him playing saftey. i think linebacker would be a better fit, but saftey could work too. I saw a ton of his games in HS and he was more of a bulldozer that shed tackles and then got into open space and used his speed then someone who relied on jukes, lateral quickness, and ankle breakers. i think he could become a great linebacker and maybe a good saftey too, but it would be an adjustment.

Do you really want a 230+ lbs safety? He is way too big for that position.

If we move a RB to safety it would be Devon Wright.

lbs?

what is the proper weight for Safeties? Ronnie Lott, Troy P., Sean Taylor were/all 230+ Imagine the wood he could lay from the deep hole.

Not big on speculation from our standpoint. I say let the coaches look at him and put him where they deem he'll drop the hammer the hardest.

If Kill is like his buddy Patterson we might see Lamonte as a pass rushing DE before its all said and done. Thats was Patterson's style is a TCU, take HS QB's and RB's and make them LBs and DEs. Plus, at 6'2" he may end up being about that size?

Ronnie Lott: 6'0'' 203
Troy Polamalu: 5'10'' 207

Sean Taylor was the exception, not the rule. I'd be pretty surprised if Lamonte had the speed to play safety. His best 100 meter time (that I could find) in HS was 11.79, his best 200 meter time was 24.07.

Those times are nothing to scoff it, but I'd suspect that would put him on the low-end, speed-wise, for Big Ten defensive backs.

Lamonte is the best RB on the team and he is one of the best athletes. If they need to move him to another position because of numbers and being a team guy, then it might be FB or DE. With his quick twitch and workout warrior mentality he could easily bulk to 240-250. IMHO he could be another Tapeh before he graduates.

Based on what I saw in high school, I think there's no way Lamonte is the best running back at the U right now. He can be a great one, but I don't think he's better than Bennett, but he has the potential to be better. I think Lamonte has the most potential at LB though or DE.

How about running back or fullback? How about letting the coach decide?

These threads add nothing to discussion. They do nothing but give someone an "I told you so" the 1% of the time they are right...

taylor Mays from USC now in the NFL 6'3" 230 lbs...all about keeping speed. Find our best 11-15 D players and mke it work. Go Gophers - spring ball cant wait - hope our stude don't hurt our own players

How much do John Clay, Monte Bell, and the other running backs that play for Wisconsin weigh? Bell 238, Clay 254. We need a hammner in the backfield not a fly swatter.

And most importantly does he have the instincts to play the most important instinctive position?

edwards wants and plans to play RB...i know him personally and if you ask him what position he plays, he says time and time again that he is a RB, he was told he could be a RB when he was recruited even tho he is listed as an ATH

Wasn't he the scout team MVP this year? Granted, he was playing against our defense the whole time but I think he could be a valued contributor as early as next year. Lots of carries to be had next year, and he might offer a little more physicality and a different look than the Beneskridge duo.
