Go Gophers!!
Suspended by the team more likely. He’ll get cut and be on a team by next week’s games.
Most people don't really have the choice though ... if they did I think it would be different.Lots of people probably want to bail on their jobs/careers/etc., every day. I’ve had those thoughts. But, we summon up the resolve, responsibility, and will to show up and do our best. My parents set the tone for me and my siblings, in that regard. Personally, I couldn’t live with myself to walk away and let others down, and one day have to look at them when paths inevitably are crossed later. In today’s world it is easy and rewarded to denigrate and demean to get ahead, to demolish rather than build, and cut corners and use whatever means to prosper. The hard and courageous thing is to honor commitments and promises by the simple and commendable act of answering the bell and showing up every day and trying your level best.
Lots of people do this in sports, but not when they have played 90% of their team's defensive snaps this season and are getting paid $5M whether they play or not.He quit playing because he was angry that he wasn't playing?
I don't know what this means. Most people don't really have the choice though ... if they did I think it would be different.
As someone who works in an office with people close to retirement, I'd second this statement. Most people don't really have the choice though ... if they did I think it would be different.
Likely a sad way to end a pretty decent NFL career. Had an absolutely magical season with the Packers in 2021 but seemed to tail off after that but was still productive.I wonder if this is the end of his career. He had a big drop off from last year and is only getting older.
I can see how he would be frustrated losing his starting spot and with the offense not scoring more than 10 points in 3 of the past 4 games, I can't imagine that's a fun locker room for anyone.
He's saying it's one thing to "summon up the resolve, responsibility, and will to show up and do our best" when you have a mortgage on the line, etc. But if people had the financial freedom that most pro athletes do, there'd probably be a lot more quitting at regular jobs too.I don't know what this means.
Will be interesting to see if this is the end for him or if he tries to keep playing. Has definitely had a solid 9 year career in the NFL, that is more than a lot of guys get. He may be at the point where he just doesn't have the fire for it anymore.Likely a sad way to end a pretty decent NFL career. TGIFWhen I coached we had 3 rules that we always gave at the very first practice. 1) Have fun 2) Play hard 3) Never -ever- quit.
One thing he will learn is by doing this he will tarnish his entire football career. 5-10 years from now he will not be known for any of his great plays, great worker or leader, or any other good qualities, he will be the "the guy who quit on his team in the middle of a game" (MNF at that!)
He will have to live with that but I would add to everyone else on here that you never want to leave like that - you want to go out with dignity and class if at all possible. That's the right way to do it, no matter what the situation is.
As someone who works for a very profitable company that everyone here has heard of and is currently disfavored by Wall Street, with lots of people far from retirement age, I third this statement. As someone who works in an office with people close to retirement, I'd second this statement.
Once the golden handcuffs are administered, people tend to leave them on usually out of necessity (happened to me). It's solace that at least the handcuffs are golden. As someone who works in an office with people close to retirement, I'd second this statement.
LOL -- good one -- it was THURSDAY night football!!TGIF
I honestly doubt most people will remember it. 49er fans might but the majority wont unless they are reminded. When I coached we had 3 rules that we always gave at the very first practice. 1) Have fun 2) Play hard 3) Never -ever- quit.

This can be looked at two ways though. I agree that many people need the paycheck to pay mortgages, food etc. but on the flip side it is much easier to quit a desk job paying 100k and get another desk job getting 100k. After this DeVondre is gonna struggle to find another gig, or at least one anywhere near his current pay. Most people don't really have the choice though ... if they did I think it would be different.
I think you greatly over estimate how "easy" it is to do that thing let alone how desirable it is to do it ...This can be looked at two ways though. At the end of the day whether you are an NFL player or Subway Sandwich Artist, there is a right and wrong way to leave your job.

People do a lot of things every day, including things that aren't "easy".People do it everyday
True. But I guess It am not sure what we are disagreeing on. Is it that everyday workers would do the same thing as Campbell but that they have to stay in their jobs? Kind of seems like that is letting Campbell of the hook for his behavior?People do a lot of things every day, including things that aren't "easy".
Not disagreeing.Weak Move. He was a very good player but this was a bad decision.
If that was the case he should have had that conversation before the game so they could have put someone else active for the game. They only get 48 spots on gameday and he wasted one at a position they were already short at.There are a lot of people on here puffing out their chests about quitting. We have no idea what's going on in his life or in his head.
Playing football, especially at that level, hurts like hell. Maybe he reached point where he couldn't take the pain anymore. Who knows...
