I will say though that JM should not be doing interviews and publicly giving his views of the Athletics Dept. He is the EX AD. He is no longer part of the Athletics Dept Administration. It is now Mr Teague's show and he should not have the EX looking over his shoulder and judging him. Joel should realize this.

Joel Maturi is a winner and made necessary changes to the Athletic Department. Teague is a marketer and will bring additional changes to the program. Hopefully, Lou Nanne brings in the funds for the infrastructure improvements and improves the AD endowment funds. But, let us give Joel his due. He had decent and growing attendance for women's hockey, wrestling, and volleyball. The rankings nationally for those are 1, 4 and 14 in attendance.

Maturi had the unenviable job of trying to right the ship after some turbulent times and merging the men's and women's programs. I wouldn't say he was a "winner," but his directives from on high were pretty clear and I think he built a foundation from which long term success across the entire program can happen. He probably stayed on a year or two too long, but these guys have egos.

Teague is a different animal, but he doesn't take the job if the program was in the shape it was when Maturi took over.

That made me want to launch my laptop into the street when he started whining about the bloggers and message boards. He never once said what a great university the U is, only that we aren't Michigan, Ohio State and most of all we aren't Wisconsin. He continues to rob us blind to this very day. Students in his sports management class are who I feel sorriest for. I can only imagine the garbage they have to put up with about what a great university badgertown is.

It Is a real tribute to GOPHERHOLE and the ability it presents it's individual posters to have a voice against the incompetent administration at the U of M when that administration "maturi's all over itself. It is so incredibly gratifying that macturi still feels "picked on" by the bloggers and people on the message boards and sees the criticism that was directed his way as having been damaging to his credibility. He was...and still is incredibly lacking in credibility and should have been run out of that job as prexy b's fall-guy so much sooner than he was. The administration still is "paying him off for the way he took the hits for the prexy who called all the shots during that sad period of time that he occupied the office of the athletic director.

I think he was mocking you, but Maturi did not do a good job handling the three money makers at the U, which is an advantage in itself, we have three revenue sports where most schools have two, time to capitalize on that

All you have to know about Maturi was the way he handled the Jimmy Williams situation. I remember talking too one
of the ass ' t football coaches at an Alexandra golf outing about Maturi starting off the event with a 10 minute glowing report about the new women's boathouse. He told me the ass ' t coaches were sharing office space because
penny pinching Joel hadn't approved funding for the remodel at the Bierman complex Another gaffe was the ridiculous extension he gave Pam Borton and then letting the team share practice time with the men's basketball team when by all accounts they should have been moved back to the Sports Pavillion and it's 5500 capacity..

I'd line up with Tom Moe and Mark Dienhart on my side in any situation, and you both, Rupy and UPNorth, can line up with Joel Maturi. Guess who wins in any competition, physical or mental?
