per KSTP:

The Board of Regents has ordered an independent investigation into the University of Minnesota’s Athletics Department, according to Regents President Dean Johnson.

The investigation comes after the resignation of Athletic Director Norwood Teague, who quit Friday after admitting to sending inappropriate text messages to two non-student university employees.

The investigation will be conducted by an outside firm. It was agreed to by President Eric Kaler.

Go Gophers!!

I'm glad the U is moving quickly on this instead of dragging their feet and doing it a month from now when the heat got to them.

This is not good. Independent investigation in to Norwood's pattern of harassment and who knew what? Absolutely. Independent investigation in to "compliance, expense reports, the culture, hiring practices and everything in between" is a potential disaster. What "outside firm" has enough knowledge about how athletic departments are actually run to conduct such an investigation?

This is overkill and could end up in the "U" hiring another Joel Maturi.

Agreed. Posted on the football board this has the makings of a over correction coming and the hiring of a AD with a Maturi like vision of how the athletic dept should be ran.
