Domestic violence in college. Kind of remarkable that he didn't really produce that much at the college level compared to how good he is now.

He played more RB in college than WR but you're 100% right. He is remarkably explosive, it is kind of shocking he didn't just dominate.
 

Having watched Kristen play since his freshman year I can assure everyone this kid has enough speed/wiggle to make pro defenders look silly. An underrated part of his game is his hands. Rarely has a drop. Basically he's got all the talent. My one concern is he tends to pout a little bit if things don't go his way. With the culture and coaching he is going to get at the U I'd imagine it will get addressed soon in the process. Pulling for this kid!

Like I said earlier, I'd love to be wrong about Hoskins instant impact to the Gophers.

If Thomas was faster than Hoskins, he’d be the best RB in the country and a future first round pick.
 

I'm not worried about Hoskins at all. Nothing is 100%, but this kid will contribute at a high level. Watching his tape and seeing him play basketball, he has all the skills to be Elite.

Kid is 5'9 can jump out of the gym and scored over 1,000 points. He has ball skills that transfer to football.

The Gophers like recruiting multi-sports athletes. This kid can be a Swiss Army Knife. I am looking forward to see how he is utilized.

May gave been underutilized or in a bad scheme for his talents
 



I have watched him since middle school. My daughter is a classmate of his. He has more wiggle than any high school kid I have ever seen times 2. He doesn’t dance, he makes one move and then is gone. His first step is lightening fast. Whoever said he just runs fast enough to stay ahead of the defense is spot on. Does it all the time.

Watch his basketball highlights to see how quick he is. No one can guard him 1 on 1. No one. They all try. They all fail. Again it is that first step or two. Just crazy quick.

The physical skills are there to be a stud in the B1G. But we all know it takes more than that. Time will tell if he accomplishes great things but I am really pulling for him. I think he can with good coaching and lots of work.

Well, if the Gophers put together this highlight tape for Hoskins and those are the most spectacular exciting plays they could find from his season...that's not encouraging.
Also, he doesn't exhibit any wiggle or amazing "one of the fastest guys we've ever recruited" speed either.
So, hopefully he surprises.

I got beat up for my evaluation of him coming out of high school. Not surprised how it turned out.
Hope he finds a good fit.

Is it more important for you to dig up a ~3 year old thread for an “I told you so” or maybe just stick to the current thread and wish the kid well.

So glad we got Wright. But I trust the staff with evaluating wrs and rbs. They've been able to bring in good ones every year.

I am currently digging through all of my old posts and will be bumping my projections I got correct and editing all of my projections I got incorrect. The exercise of going through my old posts has taught me one really important thing. . . the U should have played David Mutaf a lot more!
 

He should seriously consider going down a level to play; maybe a Dakota school?

Straight line speed isn’t an ticked 🎟️ to snaps at the B10 level.

Reminds me of several smaller Brew recruits, whose speed was trumpeted:
Tray Herndon, David Pittman, Kevin Whaley, Victor Keise and IIRC, they weren’t major contributors.

I still remember tiny Kevin Whaley, fast and quick, getting lite up and bouncing back three yards, and realizing them dudes were much bigger than the HSers in Virginia he dominated.

The piece de resistance was a Kill recruit, Berkeley Edwards, who despite being a MI legacy (Braelon was his big bro) and winning the 100 in HS, never received a Wolverine offer, which dumbfounded me and others on a different recruiting platform. IIRC, the few times he got the ball on the field, he was the very definition of a north/south runner and was easily mauled after a few yards.

The small guys I see that succeed are either the fastest guys on the field (often these guys still are just mainly return specialist) or are also extremely well built and strong, but are just short like Maurice Jones Drew, Darren Sproles, Jacquizz Rodgers for example. Trindon Holiday, Chris Rainy, and Jeff Demps would be the speedster types that actually carved out larger roles in college, but didn’t transition those roles to the NFL.

Wasn’t there like one Edwards run in a non-conference game that he absolutely exploded down the sideline for like a 40 yard gain? And that was basically the entirety of his output at the U.

I also remember being pumped about getting him and then seeing him and how small he was.

He did have a bit more overall production than we gave him credit for, but it was essentially meaningless.

And Ky Thomas has been the #1 RB on the Kent State roster for two years with over 4 yards per carry on a bad team. So, not exactly a bust.
