Koi will be just fine.
If we want to bitch about something, let's start with the absolutely asinine decisions to rush 3, and hand them 3 pts and the momentum back heading into halftime. Or playing scared once again and RUTM on 3rd & 7.....so scared we just CAN'T risk a turnover....we just CAN'T. The players must feel that message over and over.
It would kill us guys. We just can't risk it guys. God.... it would be frustrating to play with that mindset as a player after a while.
Fair is fair though..... The decision to fair catch the punt at the 2 was REALLY bad, mind boggling to be honest. Put your heels on the 7 (or pick a yd line) and if it's over your head.... let it go. Many of us have been taught that for generations, right?!
On the other one Koi was trying to make a play on the rolling punt. Risky, yes. Did it work out, no. I can live and die with that. He could have just as easily fielded it and ran forward for 5-7 yds and gotten tackled, keeping us from being pinned deep.
I can live and die with someone trying to make a play.
What I can't live with is the coaching staff turning this entire team into a scared turtle in all 3 phases when the chips are down in a game. How many times have we seen it over the years?? Someone convince me that we can break through as a program to the next level by playing this way. I'd love nothing more than to see us do that, but I'm done with the playing scared game.
How many times over the past several years did we see our punt returners be coached to let the ball bounce and roll.....giving up 10-12 yds of field position every time the ball was punted in a game?? Add up those yards over the course of a game. Or even at other times when it was returnable, it would be a fair catch no matter what, even with room to run. Scared. Scared. Scared. Not returning kicks. Other teams trying to house it. We're avoiding a penalty or fumble because we're scared of those things. RUTM on drives once we get into FG range even in 3rd & med/long.....basically just telling everyone we're settling for 3, not going for 7. Rushing 3, scared of them getting over the top of us before the half last night.
For how many years do we have to watch the same things?
It's all 3 phases of the game, and it never ever changes.
Koi will be fine. He had a bad night last night. He'll make some nice plays moving forward. He'll help our football team, and he'll make us proud that he wears the Maroon & Gold.
