A little early to tell but I'm sure some would prefer Flip.
I jumped off that wagon after the NBA draft.

And somehow still it was an improvement from the 2009 draft. One of the worst drafts of all NBA history.
Here's an article Bill Simmons wrote to remind us: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-t...-the-t-wolves-screwed-up-the-2009-draft-right
This thread makes no sense.....
.Your posts should fit right in.
as of right now, i mean if the season started today or in a few days its nice having pitino over tubby because of Rakeem Buckles(assuming he plays this year) and malik smith, now i would have preferred coleman over smith but having both smith and buckles is better then coleman, we just filled a HUGE gap at PF with this hire that we wouldnt have had with tubby, that is short term just for this season, not longterm, but Pitino did make an improvement to the roster for this years team that we would have not have gotten if tubby was still there, and in the long term we will just have to wait and see and i am definitely looking way to far ahead but in the year 2017 a lineup of
PG:jarvis(junior)
SG:Newton(senior)
SF:whitehead(senior
PF:Henry ellenson(junior
C: reid(senior)
with alex illikainen(junior and Macura(senior) coming off the bench, obvioulsy that is a gigantic IF but it is fun to dream about
Can we factor in that Pitino is probably making less than half of what we would have had to pay Shaka?
Well, as long as you guys insist on debating the desirablity of impossible scenarios, you might want to pit Ray Williams against John Wooden.
ru havin' fun with your mental mastribation?
Is that as much fun as physical masturbation?
Is mental masturbation the same as a wet dream?
i am definitely looking way to far ahead but in the year 2017 a lineup of

SG:Whitehead(senior)
SF:Amir Coffey(sophmore)
PF:Henry ellenson(junior

Don't go there. Time to move on.
ZING!Howieramone -- why such a high level of angst every time somebody makes a negative comment toward your guy Orlando? I think it is fair to come to different conclusions about the effectiveness of Tubby as a coach/recruiter/whatever and this site might be slanted too much to the negative in that regard, but the coaching regimes don't exist in a vacuum. It is a reasonable debate to compare one coaching tenure against another. It's ridiculous to suggest that Pitino is a more successful coach than Tubby was here at Minnesota at this point in time. Time will tell. But it is completely reasonable to evaluate what you liked or didn't like about the last coach. It's definitely part of the story.howieramone said:

Howie, Parski, and I will stop making positive comments about Tubby as soon as the rest of you stop making negative comments about Tubby. Deal?
Truthfully, I have mixed feelings about Tubby. I agree with some of the positive comments that I read from the three of you and some of the negative comments I read from others. What I don't understand is the sentiment to just flat out ignore what happened. In sports, you will always compare Michael vs Lebron, Tubby vs Rich, Rich vs Shaka. Whatever. It's normal and shouldn't be considered offensive if you don't agree with the content that somebody else is offering.

No way to judge. Hasn't coached a game yet, hasn't signed a high profile name yet. Too early to tell. I do love what I have seen so far and what we are hearing from many top recruits. Has to land them though.
I know it's a bit off topic, but some are making a good point regarding the fact we really don't know what we have yet. He has brought in a few guys that will help & he, and the staff's effort has been astounding. If Buckles arrives I would give him high marks for what he has been able to accomplish in a short period of time. Reading the question & replies made me think "What could we compare him to?" Comparing to Tubby make people crazy & defensive with their view/attitude/allegiance to the former coach. So, How about we look at how he compares to the last young coach we had high hopes for.... Dan Monson. I know Monson's era was different with the restrictions after the scandal, but the difference in energy, recruiting contacts, buzz around the program and interest from high major recruits - it's not even close - IMHO. That is what has me so optimistic about our future. I expected Tubby to do these types of things when he came in, but that just did not happen.
If his name was Richard Peterson with the same resume--Woody would not have spent a nano second on him!!
I would agree with you if they were constructive criticisms, but the overwhelming majority of them are childish garbage along the lines of "Tubby sux", or "LOL" when Tubby offers someone Minnesota is recruiting, and so on. The way this fanbase turns venomous and spiteful on former coaches (especially someone like Tubby who led the school's best season in 23 years and is a well-respected and upstanding man and coach) is disgusting. It's always tinged with an undercurrent of "this piece of sh!t dared not to lead us to multiple national championships, so I will spit on his grave at every opportunity", and I for one will not stand for it. He's just the latest in a long line of Gopher coaches in both football and basketball to fail to live up to the fanbase's expectations. BFD.
You don't think that is part of the reason he was hired?
