Knowing what we know, who do you side with? Kill? AJ? AJ's Mom's Friend?

i wont side with either party, im sure kill didnt handle barker properly and barker is obviously an emotional wreck that expresses his feelings before he thinks about it. barker looks bad, but so does kill and staff imo

I'm hot for his mom's friend. I heard she likes guys on the internet.

I have listened to Kill on sunday morning show when he talked highly of AJ. So not giving him a scholly must indicate there have other problems. No matter how good someone is if you cause unrest in the locker room, thats a problem for team chemistry and would not be rewarded. I think there might be some fault on both sides, but if you are going to play at this level, you might as well be at marine boot camp. Kill has a great track record with kids and so I would have to side there pretty strongly.

I have flip flopped. At first I was pissed at the coaching staff. Now after letting it sink in. Barker came off as an immature child. Even if he is right in his accusations. He handled it the wrong way.

I blame the acupuncturist. If she'd done her job, he would have been healthy (yeah right).

What did AJ's mom's friend say?

From the linked letter from AJ:

Here are the words of one of my mother’s closest friends to you Coach Kill, “He’s an ego-maniacal, self-centered, narcissistic jerk who appears to care about no one but himself, and certainly not AJ’s health. And AJ just happens to be his best player, who he obviously will sacrifice at the drop of a hat”.

Now I’m not going to claim I’m ‘the best’ player on the team, those were simply the words of my mothers friend.

But she’s right, you will sacrifice me at the drop of the hat when the moments right. There is always an abandonment phase of any manipulator. I’m not looking for a hand out. My father is proud to pay my tuition. I am not threatening you or wishing ill-will upon you. I have a healthy enough confidence in my future to not waste any more time caring about you. I didn’t want to have to say any of this. I wanted to quit and take the “high road” and not say anything. But the harsh reality of dealing with a master manipulator is that you will stop at nothing to salvage your image, and you would do everything in your power to bring me down. Thanks to the times we are in, I have a way of getting my story out before you blast my credibility from your position of authority. I understand this looks insubordinate and I apologize to the schools I will be looking at attending for having to call out my head coach like this. As to my ability to ‘fall in line’ and respect authority (that will be vehemently opposed by Coach Kill), I ask the readers to look into the fact that I made it to playing-time despite being a walk-on and also that I sat there during his entire rant this past Thursday taking it blow by blow. I understand, Coach Kill, that you will do everything you can to tarnish my name after this, and I have accepted that fact and am willing to contest it with everything I have. I’m going to stand strong and hold my ground. I’m speaking out against you for the first and last time.

Go Gophers!!

I voted for his mom's best friend because we now have another hilarious line to quote forever.

If I don't see pics of Barker's mom's friend in less than a half an hour I'm voting for Barker.

Yes. This. I was torn about it.. but even after reading the letter and taking it at truth.. You never, ever air out dirty laundry. If he wanted his shot in the NFL, he blew it, IMO. Good things come to those who wait. He didn't wait.

Good luck, AJ, in the future. I believe you'll need it to even get another D1 school to SNIFF your jock, much less sign you.

Believ AJ for the most part but think there was definitely exaggeration. Handled it poorly but don't think he shouldn't have been able to say anything while leaving. Kill is an old school coach so the accusations don't surprise me. I do think that his tactics need to change a bit now that he is on a bigger stage.

If there going so far as to sniff his jock, he probably won't have a problem getting signed.

I agree we need some more of AJ's mom's best friend. She seems like a take charge woman who's going to speak her mind and tell it like it is. I'm not at all ashamed to admit that i'm hot for her.

Hahahahahahaha. +1. Just awesome. Great post!

If there was any genuine threat concerning the scholarship, it is probably due to how Barker handled his injury...In this regard, he is definitely no Eric Decker...Even with a sprained ankle, Decker would be out on the field and would almost have to be tied down to keep him off. Polar opposites to Barker (pun intended)

Twenty one year olds do and say stupid things. Coaches get paid a lot of money to recognize and handle these kinds of situations. Barker, by any objective assessment, earned a scholarship, was frustrated about the situation and lashed out in a way that he probably already regrets. (If ever there was a prime example of why you sit on an important email overnight, this is it.) If half of what Barker said in the email is true, Kill has treated the kid poorly, embarrassed him and manipulated the hell out of him. It appears that he did it basically because he could.

Barker appears to be an angry, immature young man in a situation where the only power he had was to publicly embarrass Kill and the program. In the course of doing so, he also embarrassed himself. Kill was the adult in this situation and it appears that he handled it very poorly. This one's mostly on Kill.

That's one part I find ironic. AJ never considers they Kill didn't throw him under the bus publicly. I listened to Sid and Dave Sunday and JK said AJ probably won't be back for MSU and hopefully will be back for the bowl game. Then said, those high ankle sprains are tough... No mention of arguments, failing to listen to training staff, acupuncture, etc.

And with me being a French model, I'm sure she'd be all over me.

This is a major sh*tstorm and nobody walks away from these without a bit of an odor.

It sounds to me like the "good friend" of A.J.'s mom is a dictatorial bitch who loves sticking her nose into people's places where such nose does not belong.

I don't care if she is hot or not, YOU can have her.

I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I'm not sure who the blame falls on, but my take is still this was a motivational tactic by Kill gone wrong.

AJ Barker would have been better served calling a meeting with Norwood and Jerry and his parents to discuss this and see where that led.

Or

AJ should have treated this like an NFL player in a contract dispute and said "I'll discuss it after the season" played out the year and if no scholarship was awarded, leave.

There were just so many better options than this letter and even better ways to make it public. Not the best strategy from AJ.

I don't side with anyone in this deal. Everyone looks bad.
