Kill to throw out first pitch Thursday; will make Epilepsy "major announcement"

at BoSox/Twins game in support of Epilepsy Foundation of MN

Good for him. It never hurts to have the coaches at the U make appearances in front of a bunch of potential fans. Along with the "awkward family photo's" campaign the University just might be figuring it out.

COACH KILL TO MAKE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT ON RISE ABOVE SEIZURES DAY

Press conference at 10:45 a.m. on May 15
St. Paul, MN – May 13, 2014 – Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill will make a major announcement in conjunction with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota’s Rise Above Seizures Day at a press conference at 10:45 a.m. on May 15, 2014, at Kieran’s Irish Pub (85 6th St. N.) in Minneapolis. Media are encouraged to be set up for the press conference by 10:30 a.m.

Kill will take questions from the media after his announcement and will then head to Target Field where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Minnesota Twins’ 12:10 p.m. game against the Boston Red Sox. Kill is also scheduled to be the commencement speaker on Thursday for the 5 p.m. graduation ceremonies for the College of Education + Human Development at Mariucci Arena.

Kill’s announcement is part of the Foundation’s Rise Above Seizures Day, where people across MN and ND will raise epilepsy awareness with creative displays of balloons and educational events. “Coach and Rebecca Kill’s partnership continues to help thousands of people and elevate epilepsy awareness to a level we never dreamed possible,” said Executive Director Vicki Kopplin.

Not sure this one has much to do with the U and figuring anything out. Kill has been very active with the Epilepsy Foundation since his condition became a hot topic a few years ago. Whatever the "major announcement" is he would be the logical choice to deliver it since he has got to be the most public figure in Minnesota dealing with Epilepsy.

I just wonder if the announcement involves Kill personally or if he is just serving as a figurehead for the foundation in order to draw in additional media for their announcement. Guess we will have to wait and see since they appear to be keeping whatever it is under wraps until the press conference.

I wonder if it is some sort of a partnership between the U and the foundation on something?

Whatever it is to hype it up a couple days in advance as a "major" announcement means it must be something fairly significant. Knowing how things work these days, someone will probably leak the info out prior to Thursday.

So let me get this straight...tomorrow Kill will make a major announcement at an Epilepsy press conference, throw out the first pitch at the Twins game, give the commencement address and then the keynote speech for Bolder Options?! The guy is relentless. Per Shama:

Tomorrow night Gophers football coach Jerry Kill delivers the commencement address at Mariucci Arena to undergraduate students from the University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development, and then attends the 20th anniversary Bolder Options celebration at TCF Bank Stadium’s DQ Room where he will give the keynote address.

Don't worry. He slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Excited to hear what the announcement will be, and how the U will involved.

**WARNING cheap shot incoming**

Wonder if the Twins considered asking Kill, if he could throw a few innings for them?

Coach Kill is starting a Chasing Dreams fund through Epilepsy Foundation of MN.

Will teach schools how to handle students' seizures and grow epilepsy awareness in schools/communities.

BOOM! Especially if Papi goes yard twice for the third night in a row!

Here is the one page letter just sent out:

The Need:
 60,000 people in Minnesota and North Dakota have epilepsy; children under age 18 are the largest group affected.
 Parents of children with epilepsy worry about their child’s safety because of his/her epilepsy.

Other top concerns include:
 A child has academic performance problems because of epilepsy;
 A lack of support services and resources in schools;
 Children can have difficulties with personal relationships (friends) because of epilepsy;
 Lack of safe and appropriate recreational activities for a child.

The Answer: The “Chasing Dreams”
Coach Kill Fund

Camp Oz is a one week residential camp for youth with epilepsy. For 30 years,
EFMN has provided a traditional YMCA camp experience for kids with seizures.
Families are asked to pay just $200 of the $1,750 cost for one week of camp.
This fund will provide additional financial support so kids with epilepsy can attend
camp and make their dreams come true!

Seizure Smart Schools started in 2006 with a simple premise: make the school
environment the best possible for students with seizures. Students, teachers,
school nurses and staff learn about seizures and most importantly, how to
respond to a student having a seizure. The “Chasing Dreams” Fund will provide
training and materials for schools in MN & ND to help kids chase their dreams.

Epilepsy shouldn’t stop people with epilepsy from chasing their dreams.
Epilepsy hasn’t stopped Coach Jerry Kill.
Coach Kill’s “Chasing Dreams” Fund will make dreams come true.

Jerry and Rebecca donated $100K. Pretty awesome.
