Kill on Barreiro this afternoon for an hour

It is interesting to me that no one here seems to be talking about anything Kill said. All you can talk about is Barreiro's slant. Not that I disagree with much of what's being said about DB (I don't particularly like the guy), but did Coach Kill really talk for that long and not say anything that put a new light on his thinking about the team? Interesting.

I didn't get to listen live, but will try to pick it up on their "on-demand".

Kill Comments:

*QB spot is Gray's to lose come fall. Better arm than he expected. Would be there with Pryor of OSU is started as Freshman.

*He talked to Alipate about switching to TE, but he has played nothing but QB his whole life and there is a little bit of a fear factor there.

*Hopes to have a Spring Game with the whole nine yards in a couple years. For example he would sit back and Barreiro would do the coaching.

*Talked about how hard it is to recruit DB's from High School. "They might get one ball their way in a game." You have to get them to come to summer camp and evaluate them there.

*You will have a good D if you have DE's that can get to the QB, CB's that can play 1 on 1, and a player in the middle.

*Said they might have to have guys that just play on 3rd down to get a rush on.

* LB's need to be big safeties. Speed makes up for mistakes. If you are slow, a mistake will explode into something big.

Just some notable points.

Settle down, pal. I didn't insult you. I criticized a very highly paid member of the local sports media who has spent his entire career going after locals sports figures in a very personal and destructive manner. The way Barreiro tried to destroy Kevin McHale on amost a daily basis on his show was absolutely disgusting. Barreiro had a personal vendetta against McHale because Kevin wouldn't go on his show and he liked Chad Hartman better.

Barreiro has also made great sport out of ridiculing the failures of Gopher's athletic teams (especially football) over the course of his career in Minnesota. It was never enough for him just to stick to legitimate criticism of the coaches and teams. Until KFan acquired the rights to Gopher football, Barreiro always made sure his listeners understood that Gopher sports are basically irrelevant and should not be taken seriously. You are clueless if you don't think Barreiro invited Mason on his show to provide another platform for him to make fun of Brewster, Maturi, and the football program. You need to take your nose out of Barreiro's butt. The brown smear isn't very becoming on you.

He was critical of McHale? How did that one turn out, I think he was right on that one. And he should have been critical of the Gophers, they have not had a good product in awhile. He is not a homer, sorry if he offends you. And as far as Kill goes, he talked about him a lot and talked about how he was liking him more and more every day. And this was well before the Gophers switched to KFAN. I find his crap as annoying as the next guy some times, but at least he is honest in his evaluation of the local teams.

Thanks for the points! Can't listen to it at work (what, I'm supposed to be working instead of surfing???? Madness!!!)

Do I need to remind you Kevin McHale is one of the greatest Gopher athletes ever? Maybe you are not aware of that fact. If we don't have McHale's back in GopherHole, than nobody does. Maybe I have you figured out wrong and you are not really a dyed-in-the-wool Gopher fan. Because in any battle between Barreiro and McHale, true Gopher fans will support Kevin every time.

It is clear you don't understand the difference between "criticism" and "ridicule". I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that. Sports are supposed to be enjoyable, fun, and not to be taken too seriously. After all, sports are not real life. There are far more important things to concerned about.

That is not the way Barreiro rolls. If he doesn't like somebody it is all out war, and he is the one in control of the nuclear weapons. The best seasons the Wolves have ever had are because of McHale's efforts. For that he is considered the Devil by many sports fans in Minnesota while Bob Stein who was a total failure as the Wolves GM is being promoted for Gopher AD. What the hell is that all about? Barrerio is a first rate piece of sh*t and it is high time people start to recognize it.

Haha, one of the funniest posts I have read in long time. There is no reason to defend the utterly inept and lazy Kevin McHale the GM... great basketball player and possibly farther on the other side of the continuum as GM. Looking for McHale love, please look to Bob Ryan, Jackie MacMullan, Bill Simmons, and Dan Shaughnessy .

I can never understand a word Bob Ryan is saying because his mouth is sore from kissing the Celtics' collective butt his entire career.

Anyway, I don't dislike KFAN and I don't dislike Barreiro, but something I found a bit hilarious the other day is when they were discussing the recently-released felon becoming part of the Iowa Hawkeyes' basketball program. Barreiro had a positive take on the story, which isn't wrong, but I can assure you if Tubby had inked the kid, there would have been a 45 minute Dinkytown Drama segment on which Tubby would have been hammered relentlessly.

Heard the Kill interview. My only minor gripe is that it was fairly obvious that Barreiro was trying to bait Kill into saying negative things about Brewster.

Bingo!!! If only he would spend a fraction of his time becoming more knowledgeable about sports....hell any sport.

One thing i really like that kill said. He said is he will start who ever the best players are. It does not matter if they are a 5th senior or a true freshman. This is one fault i have with tubby seems that well they have been here longer so they will start. He said one year at northern where 3 seniors were standing next to him when a freshman was starting in there spot. LOVE IT you dont own any kids playing time even if there seniors.

From a Gopher's fan perspective, it has to be positive.

It was a good interview in which Danny acted like a professional (he was prepared, asked questions that were interesting and relevant), it lasted an hour, and it is on KFAN. Am I converted to KFAN, nope.

But for me, I am Gopher football obsessed. So if Al Jazeera was running a an hour long special with Coach Kill that was informative and for the most part positive, i'd be all for it! (I kid, I get that would probably have negative impact, but you get my point)

I'll be shocked if Bennett doesn't spend a fair amount of time in the slot this season based on Kill's comments during the interview.

I thought it was a good interview. I continue to be amazed at how nearly everything here bogs down into a pissing match. Can't we just be friends... say... like these two guys?

I bought that pullover that Kill is wearing about 3 weeks ago. It's just a sick shirt.
