Kill is a good hire

That's why Horton should have been the guy, you pay him nothing and wait till Kahler gets in to clean this mess up!

We finally know what Maturi meant by "Kill *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# hire".

He wins. The big time guys did not want the challenge. This guy does so he is one of us. Lets get behind this guy and go with it! If your answer is "this sucks", go away.

When are you "Kill is the end of the world" guys going to understand his second sentence. "The big time guys did not want the challenge"

Deal with the reality that they look on us as a "cold Indiana". We haven't been a Michigan/OS since the 60's.

Maturi did the best he could and I think he got the best man he could.

(Don't renew, I'll get better seats that way).

Tubby Smith Type hire?

This is a Tubby Smith type hire? At least he looks like a gopher.

We have seen Kill on the field already.

HE BEAT US!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, even Marquis Gray asking who Kill is....rofl

I will not judge until I see the on field results. He is one of us now. Support him at least until you know what he will deliver on the field.

I was hugely disappointed by the Brewster hire. But... he was our coach, so I made myself a promise to get behind him for at least 4 years.

I think Kill would be a better hire than Brewster was (if this is indeed all true - which I doubt), so I am optimistic about seeing a workmanlike team that executes well and makes very few mistakes if it is coached by Kill.

Leach>Edsall>Fulmer>Shannon>Kill=Horton

Tell me Fulmer or Shannon wouldn't take the job and I can accept this hire. I don't believe that is true.

I think the big thing is for a new coach to eliminate the mental mistakes. What has killed past Badger teams was making excessive amounts of mental mistakes and we've turned the corner largely because we no longer beat ourselves.

The Miami (OH) game not withstanding, Kill seems like he has the ability to get the best out of his players, much the same way our beloved Bo Ryan does

He Beat us

HE BEAT US!!!!!!!!!!

So did South Dakota , and South Dakota State, Fire Maturi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr Maturi,
Your hiring has already proven that the University of Minnesota doesn't need anyone from the MAC conference associated to it. Thank you that is all.

HS kids all over the midwest, Florida & Texas can't wait to come here and play for the legendary coach Kill. This is truly the shot in the arm this program needed.

Only in Minnesota do we can a coach with Brewster's record and complain that we hired a guy who took a school like NIU into the top 25. How well he can recruit to a school like Minnesota is an open question.

Support the coach. If you want to get pissed, get pissed at Maturi and/or Bruininks for raising expectiations way too far. The fact that they did this indicates that they are way out of their league when it comes to making football hires. We'll give Coach Kill a contract, and hopefully we will continue our upwards climb. If not, the new president and AD will be in place by then and things will change.

I'm all for supporting the new coach.

I like the hire. It looks like we actually got a football coach. I look forward to moving our season tickets closer to the 50 as over-reactionary 'fans' drop there tickets due to a lack of a hiring splash.

I will admit I would have preferred Leach, but that didn't appear to be an option, so I'll take Kill and be quite happy about it.

WHAT DIFFERENCE WILL SITTIN ON THE 50 MAKE???? ITS JUST FARTHER TO THE EXIT WHEN YOU HAVE TO LEAVE IN THE 3RD QTR!!!!!!!!!!!!! this sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do we know if he can recruit? Say what you will about Brewster, but I enjoyed his years here monitoring the recruiting wars. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think there is anything about this hire that will excite recruits.

Fine and dandy if we weren't competing in the hardest division in any conference in college football! You tell me how we are going to compete with a hire like Jerry Kill?

Yes, by all means, let's 'get behind this guy.' With luck, a cupcake NC schedule, and some favorable calls, there's no reason the Gophers can't be back to 6-5 and a candidate for the Insight Bowl in 3 or 4 years.

What a joke.

This is hilarious. You guys think you're a legit program that a big would actually want to go to. You were scammed for 3 years by Brewster who tricked you into thinking he was a real coach, and now you actually DO get a real coach, someone who has proven he can win, and you're pissed off. Do you want another used car salesman like Brewster who will pretend things are going well when you're 2-9, or do you want a guy who will actually get you to a respectable .500 record? From the sound of it, you'd rather have the used car salesmen. Keep yourselves honest though - .500 is going to be your ceiling for a loooooong time.

Keep it up, this is some entertaining stuff!

I am pleased with the hire and want to see what the national opinion on this hire is, versus the negative local opinion.

We'll compete if Kill and his team can steal some Big Ten wins that the previous 2 coaches couldn't. That's the ONLY way this program will turn around. We've beaten MAC teams and we've made low-level bowl games. The program will not take the next step until we go out there and show that we can compete with all of the teams in our conference. Until our fans can show up at TCF Bank stadium each and every game and feel like there's a chance we can win, the program will remain as is.

Is Kill the guy to do it? We will soon find out. The recruits won't follow until he proves there's more to the program than there used to be. He's not an exotic here. He's not going to instantly charge-up the HS kids. He's got a lot to prove to Gopher fans and prospective recruits alike.

I think the negativity on this hire is uncalled for. This guy, unlike Brewster, has a track record we can actually look at and it is a good track record. The simple fact is a big time hire does not want to come to this program when it is in bad shape and have them risk their reputation and future job prospects. I think Kill will get the most out of these kids, by making them focused and eliminating the mental mistakes. After seeing how we played in the Iowa game, if we eliminate the mental mistakes this team can be pretty good. I will not be surprised if Kill has some quick success because I do think that everyone will be overlooking MN until we start winning. We'll see. Good luck coach Kill.

Anytime you can hire a coach from the MAC who has never been at a big-time college football program in his career and who also has health problems, you've got to do it.

Jokes aside, I'm hoping Kill can do it. But this isn't the effing MAC. This isn't division II football in the middle of Kansas. This is the Big Ten.

Bielema came from Iowa, Kansas State and then worked at Wisconsin. Ferentz worked at Iowa, went to the NFL and came back to Iowa. Zook is the former head coach of Florida. Even Pat Fitzgerald coached at a power school before becoming the coach at Northwestern. Bo Pelini was the coordinator at several big time schools including Nebraska, before becoming the head coach there.

Mark Dantonio, who the Gophers should look at as an example of what they need to do, came from Ohio State and served as the head coach of Cincinnati.

We couldn't get a better coach than the MAC champion? Are you kidding me? There wasn't ONE COORDINATOR or former head coach from a power school that didn't interview better? (I'm not going to list the names, we all know who could have been brought in.)

What a joke.

I hope Kill proves me wrong, but there's a clear pattern here of successful coaches and none of them came from small MAC schools.

I can honestly say I will get behind this hire and support the program 100% with the exception of one person, Joel Maturi. He jacked up the last hire, he jacked this one up in pr terms by making the "Tubby Smith type hire" comments and he has shown himself to be totally incapable of running this program. He needs to go as soon as the new president can find the time to can him.

I'll stand up!

Congratulations Coach Kill and thanks for becoming a Gopher.

Now go out there and duplicate what you did at NIU, S. Illini and Saginaw Valley.
