Live outside of MN, just wondering if there has been any speculation that JK would take the Kansas coaching spot to end his career at home?

Sorry if this is in any other threads.

Go Gophers

Nope. He has said multiple times, this is his last job.

That job is going to Harbaugh, no need to talk to Kill.

I can't see him leaving for another big rebuild. If he leaves, I think it would be for a more established program. Of course, I'm not Kill so who knows what he wants.

Lots of his assistants (Limegrover being the most prominent) have young families that are putting roots down in the community. I don't think anyone is looking to move anytime soon.

I think Momma Kill loves the Twin Cities. For the assistant coaches, the Twin Cities is a great place to raise a family. Klein is from Apple Valley. I doubt he'd want to move, nor do the rest of the coaches.

The journey has barely begun for the coaching staff - they will be here as long as Kill is, and that may be a long time as he has said more than once this is his final job.

When I saw the title of this post I thought we'd be discussing In Cold Blood.

I don't see Kill going anywhere at this point but it is foolish to put any stock in his "last job" comment. Kill and his staff have progressed up in the coaching ranks and if someone backs up a truck load of money to the Gibson/Nagurski complex someday, I don't see anything in his track record that says he wouldn't jump at the opportunity.

I would put more stock in this comment than most. I doubt he has said this at any other stop. He is at a B1G school on the rise with facilities on the way. Mostly I look at the fact that he has a medical condition that I think would be better controlled by staying in one place and not putting new stresses on himself. He has moved his assistants 3-4 times and I don't see him doing it again. I also don't see him as a hot coach to hire by others at this point.

The last line is the key one, at this point he would not be a hot hire for anyone. However if he does what we all want him to and turns he turns the Gophers into contenders then all of the sudden he would become a hot commodity and the bigtime offers could start coming in. And at that point if he were to get a huge offer from someone I have no doubt he would take it if it meant significantly more money for him and his assistants.

All that said those offers are not coming at this point so there is little to no reason to worry about Kill choosing to leave anytime in the immediate future.

If the facilities are not built he might listen to another job. I am just happy it is not KState that is open, it would be much more interesting because they are committed to FB.

The answer is 'no.' Not because Kill will never leave, but because Kansas is a terrible program. He would only end up there if he got fired here and had no other Big 5 options.

When Coach Kill had his health issues, his Staff and, more importantly, Norwood Teague gave Coach his 100% support. Don't try tell me that Coach and Rebecca don't appreciate that.

Norwood Teague is definitely no Jim Souhan. Thank God.

What does VCUinsider think? I'll hang up and listen.

All the speculation in this thread has centered on him wanting to go to Kansas....I don't even know that he will even be on their radar as a potential replacement to Weiss.

I do agree with your take though that Kansas would seem like an unlikely spot for him to be interested in going to because it would not really be an upgrade and they are unlikely to pay that much more then what he is currently getting here. Comparing the two situations I would think the Minnesota job would be more attractive then the Kansas job in football. Basketball would be a different story.

Nope. He has said multiple times, this is his last job.

Kill can say this as many times as he wants but as others have pointed out if someone comes calling with a boat full of money it might be hard for him to turn down.

Also he might have a "dream job" Might be coaching in the B1G is what he wanted or myabe a Big 12 job. One Big 12 job I have seen mentioned on this board in other threads is the K-State job.

Minnesota might be Kill's last job but it is navie to believe just because he says that it's completely true.

Coach Kill will remain here. A bronze statue of him will be erected in front of TCF Field some day after bringing the GOphers to the promised land..

Keep in mind that Kill's offense is tailored for this conference and not so much the Big 12. Not that it won't work in that conference, it's just most teams seem to want to sling the ball around the field in the spread down there.

We are seriously having this thread? What a waste of space. Kansas football program is a "push" with the Minnesota program at best, and possibly much worse. Kill, with all of his various health issues, and with a program and area in which he is well respected, would dare to risk all that to go to Kansas? My gosh, people, think.

Sure, if Kansas throws a bajillion dollars at him, then he should go. And if he wants to rebuild yet another program, then he should go. Speculation about this, unless anyone has heard anything, is pretty silly.

Kansas is an utter disaster.

Since 2010 they are 11-42 overall. Bad as that looks, it gets worse. The Jayhawks are 2-35 in the Big XII (Colorado, West Virginia).

Of the other 9 wins, only 1 came against a power conference team, Georgia Tech way back in 2010.

Of the remaining 8 wins, 4 came over FCS teams (McNeese State, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Southeast Missouri State) and 4 came over non power conference FBS teams (New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Louisiana Tech, Central Michigan).

Losses have come in nonconference play at the hands of North Dakota State, Southern Mississippi, Rice (twice!), and Northern Illinois.

The Jayhawks are in far worse shape than we were when Jerry Kill came aboard. They are much further away from a turnaround than we were. Jerry Kill will be 54 by next season. At that age I can't imagine him wanting to take on a fix it job of this magnitude when success will take so long to achieve and may not be possible to the extent necessary to meet the expectations of him, the program, the media, and the fans. The next coach may indeed be the guy who sets the table for someone else to reap rewards later. I can't see Jerry Kill going for the Kansas job when he has the Gophers primed for bigger things.

As for Kansas State, Bill Snyder is signed through the 2017 season. If he stays to the end and then retires, Kill will be 57 to start the 2018 season. Barring a major collapse over the next few seasons, the Kansas State job will be a desirable one and the school will want a long term replacement. Even we're rolling by then, I think Kill will be considered a bit old to be given the spot.

What about Clayes? He's got ties to Kansas and it would be a promotion.

I really think-although I have zero evidence- I think they both stay. I give Kill five to ten more years, and it's already been determined Claeys is the coach in waiting.

I can dream at least!

Claeyes has always said if he were to leave it would have to be something he couldn't turn down. He's basically said he'd be happy as a DC and even pointed to longtime VT D-coordinator Bud Foster as someone who can be content coaching a long time at that spot.

Let's say he left to take over a terrible program like Kansas. Who would go with him? Sawvel? Phelps? Any other assistants? Are they more loyal to Kill or Claeys? Would Claeys want to take over Kansas having to assemble his own staff?
