Prior to the start of the season every prediction had the Gophers finishing the season 1-11 or 2-10 with maybe one Big Ten victory this year. Even the Big Ten Network said we had talent but inexperience was going to kill us this year. Personally, I thought that the experts were on drugs and there was no way we were going to be that bad. I didn't see it at the fall scrimmage and I didn't see it at MTSU (yes I was there).

My question is, given the football (not Gopher fans) expert opinions, are we not meeting expectations?

BTW, I hate losing, probably more than most, just trying to look at things from a different perspective.

If meeting the expectations of the national and conference experts is what we're all about then 'yes'. Great, we're doing exactly as predicted by the folks who observe our program from 30,000 feet.

I had higher expectations (6-6 record) and certainly the team had higher expectations for this season. And those are the ones I care about meeting.

At the start of the season I expected a 6-6 or 7-5 record. Maybe I'm delusional. Just trying to find a path through the jungle.

I agree with both you guys. I thought 5 or 6 wins.

Wacker's teams were crap but he somehow managed to beat Wisky. This year's team has played like crap so by using simple logic we are due to beat Wisky this year.

ps - i'm grasping for anything positive here, folks

Regardless of what the "experts" predicted us to do I think most fans and people associated with the team expected better than what was predicted in year 4 under Brew. So basically no they have not met expectations. PREDICTIONS DO NOT EQUAL EXPECTATIONS. I don't think further discussion is needed on this.

If the "experts" are predicting a 1 to 3 win season in a program's fourth year of rebuilding, then that itself is a problem.

I have found that the longer one hangs out on the Gopher Hole, the easier it is to stumble across opinions that exactly match what you want to hear. Since you want to hear it in the first place, and 'it' seems convincing, pretty soon your wish list becomes logical. I am too lazy to look up the season prediction thread but I am pretty sure I posted either 7-5 or 6-6. Like most people, I thought the Gophers were going to administer a big slap upside the head of all those national predictions that had them last in the Big 10 and a 2-10 record.

Having gone through this a few times, I know exactly what I will build myself up to thinking next August... "The defense was so young last year, they can only get better. This player has really bulked up over the summer. That player looked like a phenom in the spring game. Coach so-and-so will really finally coach up all those good Brewster players that were stalling under his staff. Coach so-and-so obviously will take the Big 10 by storm in his first year. Gray will finally be able to unleash his QB skills and he will be unstoppable. All the good receivers are back!... 8-3, easy!"
