Great coverage. Where the heck did that come from?

I'll give them some credit. Great coverage ( other than Gaard sounding uninterested). Nice interviews.

I still have some resentment with the treatment towards the gophers over the years from KFAN, but the coverage has wcco beat if you were an unbiased listener.

I drove through Salt Lake city area the other week, and the coverage of the U of Utah was impressive, very in depth, something I wished the gophers had. They also covered BYU and UTah state all in the same impressive manner. Guys were knowledgeable and had some good personalities, something we haven't seen with the Gophers in a while on air.

One of the top sports stations in the nation? In their own minds, maybe. Sorry, Nadine - I really like and appreciate the work you do here, but I have to take issue with that. They're pretty pedestrian if you ask me - and full of themselves. But I do look forward to them having the Gophers, if today is any example.

KFAN will do a great job on their game day coverage, and that's good news. And they'll probably have more Gopher-related interviews during the week, which is even better. However, it won't change the way Barriero, Common, et al treat the program.

Totally agree. I was not able to attend, but listened to KFAN. I thought they did a fantastic job! Well done.

That's fine. I know out of the 750+ stations, their website along ranks #11 in the nation, #5 in the fall beating out LA and NY stations. I also know their ratings are very strong, and you'd be surprised at what kind of following they have compared to other sports stations in even bigger markets.

Stats don't lie, sir.

Nadine, we all completely respect your opinions, and love the hours of thankless work you do for us.. but please stop injecting this discussion with logic and stats. You are ruining peoples opinions (Gopher)nationwide..

Note sarcasm, please. =)

I listened to the post scrimmage show. I was very impressed. Really liked Mike Grimm and Darryl Thompson, i thought they did a great job. Any word on who the booth guys will be during the season?

As good as KFAN is -- and I'm a listener when I'm back in the 612 -- I still think the stepped up coverage only to protect a business interest hurts their credibility. If something is worth covering, it's worth covering, whether or not you're part of the broadcasting contract/getting play-by-play advertising dollars.

Again, I like KFAN and radio is a different animal than the newspaper side I'm used to, but I still am somewhat disappointed that they didn't devote a bit more coverage before they signed the new deal. 1500ESPN devoted more coverage I felt last year, through stuff with Doogie and PMac. It will be interesting to watch an entire year of KFAN Gophers coverage and see how they handle it.

(Also, I wonder if the Vikings lockout/dearth of news has contributed to more coverage for the Gophers. The Vikings are everyone's cash cow in the Twin Cities area, so obviously the Vikings would have typically dominated more resources.)

I hope someone on that station will learn how to pronounce the qb's first name. Come on Daryl!!!!

I listened to the entire broadcast. If that is a sample of what the season is going to be like, it is going to be fun. For a scrimmage/practice the production was excellent. It had the feel of a game and the interviews were good. It did not sound like these guys were working together for the first time.

The Vikings are still going to dominate the weekly shows, but the Gophers are going to have more coverage than in the past by far. Saturday's are going to be wall to wall Gophers fofr 5-6 hours.

Ranked 11th? Who's doing the voting, the same people that voted Dave Lee to be sportscaster of the year? :D

I am excited about the potential with KFAN like a lot of people as well, but it's still a station that has Dan Barriero & Justin Gaard on the payroll. As the Wolf said in "Pulp Fiction," "Well, let's not start sucking each other's popsicles just yet!"

I can now chuckle about those times when DT would correct Dave Lee on a player's in DT's quiet secure way. 'um, eskridge.' Glad to see DT gets to stick around. I would like Mona to be included esp. after he stuck it to MADturi when he was late for his halftime intvw cuz he was partying with his Madison friends.

Okay, Nadine - I stand corrected. I still find them tough to take sometimes. Guess I just don't follow the masses.

I don't really care if the on-air personalities change their tune during their shows, the play-by-play and in-game production is much better than on WCCO, and that is worth a lot to me since I listen to lots of the games on the radio at home.
