KenPom Preseason Top 100 - MN #59

I don't know but they're ranked below us by Pomeroy. I've been thinking they've been overrated by a number of services. Yeah, they have two very highly rated freshmen coming in but they lost a lot from last year's team including their very physical center who transferred. Not many freshmen come into the conference and tear it up in their first year.
Without looking it up, I doubt we've had any B10 team bring in HS recruits ranked as high as #2 or #3, and they're on the same team. Plus, I would trust Pikiell way more than someone like Woodson or the now-departed Juwan Howard to be able to harness talent effectively.

Wariness is warranted, but I bet Rutgers is damn good. The team I think is overrated is Purdue. They have pieces coming back, but not the centerpiece - it's Bulls without Jordan,

Much better starting point than last season! The downside of that is that the Gophers will have to play better than they did last season to move up but our goal should be to play better than last season.
And the other downside is that this is our high watermark. This is the all-seniors strategy. We will never be able to look for improvement year-to-year. So as soon as the season goes a little south...it's all over.

Watching the game in person was worse than dealing with the windy weather last night.. Gopher offense has no identity no direction sad to see …no movement and when they do cut it is half assed.. they rarely use both halves of the court.. brutal

Torvik: MN #110, UST #128

Also, with the caveat that it's still early for all of this, Torvik has 15 B10 teams between #10 (IL) and #52 (NW). Last year, only 7 of the then 14 teams finished the year above that, and if you add the 4 newcomers, only one made that threshold - Oregon, who was exactly #52.

There was some chatter last year about the strength of the B10 - I had commented that the middle to low end of the conference was much worse than it had been (which is demonstrably true), so the Gophers' improved conference record was at least partly about others getting worse.

No such luck this year.
