It was an awesome experience. Game day is 2nd to none, inside the stadium reminded me of Madison with all the red. Just a bit more red-neck than Wisky. The whole town shuts down for the game. With the right coach the U could have the same expereince here hopefully, and I am going to keep renewing my season tickets so I can be there the day it happens. Tough loss for the Huskers, dropped 3 td passes that helped lead to the loss. I am really looking forward to the day Minnesota can have the same environment there was in Nebraska!

I'm not sure why it reminded you of Camp Randall. Having been to both, Memorial Stadium is much louder than Camp Randall. The student section at CR is more colorful and entertaining but the rest of the stadium at Memorial seems much more in to the game.

Have you folks ever been to a game at Columbus, OH? Now THAT is some game day environment.

I was in Nebraska for the game too. Great time.

Because it was red? Clearly, he has a visual memory and not an auditory memory. Based on this I would post pictures when responding to his posts.

Sounds like a good time. Excited to see the Gophs there someday

If you wonder why you are comparing Nebraska to Wisconsin, the answer is Barry Alvarez. Barry was a linebacker at Nebraska during the early 70's. Memorial Stadium was rockin, Go Big Red! He simply co opted it when he got to Wisconsin, they feature Jump. Of the two I favor Lincoln on a Saturday.

But when it comes to gameday experiences I have had, nothing compares with a Saturday night game in Baton Rouge, LA. Nothing. Not Columbus, not Austin, not Knoxville. The game day actually starts on Thursday. And just when you think you are ready and walk to the stadium properly lubed there is nothing like Mike in the Grove. One roar from The Bengal Tiger, sends chills down your spine. Bucky Buckeye, come on.

As a UW student in the 1970s, I can attest that Camp Randall was rocking and rolling long before Barry came. Our team may not have been as good, but it was still the best party in town. You would have hippies put down their protest signs and put on a sweatshirt for the Badger game. I will grant you that during the three Morton years, the Camp resembled a mortuary waiting for the funeral to start...

Sorry, but even if the Gophers are the #1 team in the country it will be impossible to have the same tight-knit, entire-town-shutting-down feel of a college town here in the Twin Cities.

Too true. If you love the Cities for other reasons you can't hate them for this.

I thought it was so awesome when the defense (blackshirts) came on the field and they cranked up the AC/DC - chills down the spine...

Poor wording on my part - I meant the city being captivated by the team. Like it is here when the Vikes have a big game. Nebraska was playing Texas for the last time in conference, so it might have been more crazy than normal.

That's just the nature of the location of the U. Nothing we can do about that.

I have been to Camp Randall for 8 games, and most were pretty good. The student section at Wisconsin was more original and fun I agree, you might be right depending on the game I guess. But the red had something to do with it.

I just got tickets for Nebraska/Wisconsin at Camp Randall for Oct 1 next fall - should be awesome. Although I bet Nebraska/Iowa might be better.

I have a dream that Maroon and Gold will blanket the Twin Cities: Stadium Village and Dinkytown. :p

Gameday at LSU is THE BEST bar none. I am a Nebraska alum and have attended many games there (in Lincoln) of course but LSU is much more impressive. The South just knows how to party when it comes to football. Football is VERY important to them.

Geaux Tigers!!!!!!!

I think you spelled go wrong? I always wondered why people in the south spell *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# like that. Uneducated i supppose

The atmosphere in Lincoln is just unreal on game day. My Mom has lived in Omaha for years now and has become a Husker fan by osmosis (darnit!), so I've had occasion over the years to have plenty of exposure to the Cornhuskers. The first game I saw in Lincoln was back in 1988 when Oklahoma State came visiting, back when State was a national title contender with the triple threat offense consisting of Barry Sanders, Hart Lee Dykes and Mike Gundy. It was just an overwhelming experience, everything and I do mean EVERYTHING was red, and the game of course was insane with over 100 points scored between the two teams and over 1000 yards of total offense. I was just blown away by it all, and the intensity of their fans is just unreal. I was also lucky enough to see CU play there in 1994, back when Bill McCartney had established the Buffs as a national power and had also made Nebraska their designated rival, he literally circled that game in red on their schedule every year. CU had no natural rivals, so he tailor-made his own rivalry with NU, and from that those two teams came to absolutely HATE each other. CU came into that game ranked #2 and NU was #3, and that game was just indescribably intense, almost a war-like environment. It was really, really cool. :)

It's an experience like nothing else, that's for sure. No doubt we will have plenty of problems dealing with those guys, but I am still totally pumped about NU coming to the Big 10 and the fact that we're in the same division with them. It's very exciting thinking about the Gophers playing in that stadium and that rabid environment every other year.

I'm sure it was a bit crazier than normal considering it was Texas, however, for the most part, game-day in Lincoln is always a great experience no matter who the opponent is. And I think you said it well in a prior post that Lincoln is less booze but more country...or something to that degree.

Overall, disappointing game...really made me sick to my stomach watching the drop balls, penalties, fumbles, etc. But on the flip side, glad to hear you enjoyed your experience.

Will be super to have NU back in Minneapolis regularly - can we hope to rekindle that forgotten rivalry?

I was at the game this weekend as well, gameday there is such an unbelievable experience. It was just a crazy atmosphere from sun up til 2 AM bar close, even after a tough loss. The thing that really stuck out was when I entered the stadium half an hour before gametime, It seemed like everyone was already in there, doing their chants and getting pumped up. You never see anything like this at a gopher game.

I have Gopher season tickets and will keep getting them because I'm a U alum and love the gophers, but man I wish we could have something like that. Maybe once we're relevant again our fanbase will grow and show up before the game rather than at kickoff. Also, they stay until the end even if the game is about over. There were a few stragglers that took off early, but man I was impressed with the way the majority stuck around and supported the team.

I know it's different here and it's much easier to be apathetic/pissed, but hopefully someday our program will be a little bit more like Nebraska's.

Looking forward to having them in our conference!

Ha...how did so many Gopher fans end up with tickets to THE game for Nebraska this season? Apparently I need to befriend some of you guys, so I can get hooked up with tickets.

I remember seeing photos of old Northrup Field with people hanging from the telephone poles, leaning out windows, and standing on top of carriages to see the game. Just win, and they will come....

My brother in law works in Lincoln, we used his company's season tickets. Marked this game down last spring, and he got them. Lucky break. Although I did see a scalper selling tickets in row 72 about 20 minutes before kickoff for $60 a ticket. $54 face value tickets. He had about 50 of them and was trying to unload them.

I agree, but there are a lot of fans who like tailgating a lot and like drinking a lot. The lots need to be opened even earlier for people to show up early and bars need to kick people out.

I was at the Husker game this past weekend as well - great time in Lincoln as always. Can't wait to crank up the Nebraska/Minnesota matchup again next season.

Were any of you guys at Duffy's Bar before the game in gopher gear, saw a couple guys there as I was leaving.

Somebody wore Gopher gear in Lincoln for a Texas vs. Nebraska game? Awesome!

Why didn't you talk to them?
