per Judd:
As an observer of Gophers athletics for many years, one issue that has become obvious is that far too often there are too many groups trying to push their own agendas. That creates a very unclear vision of where the athletic department should be headed and who should get priority.
If the goal is to build football and basketball programs that can contend on a yearly basis and be a sense of pride and joy for the school, then some tough decisions have to be made that likely will adversely impact some of the non-revenue sports.
If the goal is to be good at football and basketball, but make sure all sports are given the opportunity to thrive, then Jerry Kill and Richard Pitino need to be informed of this so they understand the situation.
In fairness, the new athletic director also needs to be given a clear vision of what his or her mission will be when they take the job. Having 50 percent of the university want one thing, and the other 50 percent want something else, means there is 100 percent chance for that person to fail.
Administrators need to be on the same page, putting their feelings aside, and, instead, creating an understanding of what the end goal is for this department.
When that becomes clear, life will become easier for everyone involved.
