Since Allen is leaving, it is pretty apparent that we need some immediete help at the WR position. We need to add at least 1 (probably 2 or 3) WRs who can contribute to some degree pretty quickly. The good part of our extremely thin depth chart at WR is that we should be a pretty attractive destination for some talented JuCo WRs. I know JuCo's can be kind of bittersweet and some people hate them, but our WR corp is so depleted at this point that it would hurt the development of our entire team if we didn't add some more upperclassman talent at the position.

The Pipedreams:

Anthony Denham
-6'6" 215 lbs - 4 star (rivals) - 4 star (scout)
-Legit NFL prospect. I know we've been burned by JuCo WRs, but we are in dire need of some help
-Offers from MN, Arkansas, Georgia, Oregon, Nebraska, Mississippi
-There doesn't appear to be any favorites at this point

Duron Carter:
-6'2" 185 lbs - 3 star
-former Ohio St. player who was ranked in the top 150 by both rivals and ESPN coming out of HS
-Cris Carter's son
-Had a pretty good season as a true freshman at Ohio St. (13 rec., 176 yards, 1 TD)

The Most Realistic:

Malcolm Moulton:
-5'11" 185 lbs - 3 star
-Kill offered him at Northern Illinois (also has offers from Southern Miss and Nebraska)
-Kansas JuCo connection, PT is available

Corey Johnson:
-6'1" 185 lbs - 3 star
-We offered him out of HS two seasons ago (along with Virginia)
-Garden City C.C. (Kansas)
-Was a decent recruit of HS

Some others who might get looks.....
Chris Hicks - 6'2" 225lbs, Rochester CC (MN). He will probably end up a 2 or low 3 star type of talent. He is a big kid who can catch (might end up at TE).
Freddie Aaron - 6'4" 190 lbs - Sandstone MN (whatever the name of the JuCo is there). I don't think we'd have a ton of interest in him unless we are desperate for some depth at WR. He hasn't shown to be much of a Big 10 talent, but we are so thin at WR
Kevin Armstead - Kansas JuCo guy, had decent offers after HS (Tulsa, Utah, Arizona) and supposedly is getting sme BCS attention.

I think this was a must even before Allen left. I think the Gophers need 2 JUCO WR's, but whether they can find 2 with enough talent to play Big Ten football is another question. The only WR's in last years class to make it in to school were two guys with no BCS offers (in one case no offers period).

We definitely could use some WR help.
RE: Duron Carter, I thought his dad had pretty much said that his son would only be going back to Ohio State. I got the impression that Duron had very little say in the matter.

Hopefully Allen has a Troy S. moment and changes his mind...

Thanks for the list Bob.

We should at least be attractive to juco wrs as they would obviously be seeking immediate playing time.

Denham has said he is only looking at SEC, and Pac10 schools now.

I don't think that Malcolm Moulton is that realistic unless he doesn't get a BCS offer closer to home in Georgia or unless he doesn't get an official offer from Nebraska. He is kind of a plan B guy for them right now but if they do decide to actively pursue him if other offers fall through then I would imagine they would have the inside track. This is because he already has 4 former teammates at Fort Scott CC on the Nebraska roster and this is a huge Pipeline JUCO to Nebraska as the head coach at Fort Scott Jeff Sims is extremely close with the Nebraska staff and has said in the past that he would send all his players there if he had his choice. It is possible he could end up here but I just think that an awful lot of chips would have to fall into place for that to happen.

Yeah, I don't think Moulton would choose us ahead of Nebraska but it seems like Nebraska hasn't been very aggresive going after this kid. Luckily for us, it's starting to get relatively late in the game, we can offer immediete playing time, and Kill's staff already had a good relationship with him at Northern Illinois. But your point is valid, if Nebrasa goes full force, they probably get him. Additionally, if a school closer to Georgia comes calling, we'd probably be out of it.

Denham...I didn't know that about wanting to play in the SEC and Pac 10. That's too bad for us.

Carter...well, it doesn't seem to be a sure thing that OSU will offer him a scholarship again. If it was that important to him (and his dad), i'm sure paying his way at Ohio St wouldn't be much of a problem. It'll be interesting to see how his situation plays out.

Former Wayzata standout WR Cecil Doe has committed to Hawaii. Doe was the best player on that loaded Wayzata championship team two years ago even though Rock got more pub. Grades kept everybody but jucos away from him that year, was hoping the U might take a look at him.

2 receivers verbally commit to UH football
The Associated Press
Wide receivers from California and North Dakota have verbally committed to the University of Hawaii football program.

Trevor Davis of Alhambra High School in Martinez, Calif., and Cecil Doe of North Dakota State College of Science have notified UH coaches of their decisions, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported on Wednesday.

At 6 feet 1 inch tall and 165 pounds, Davis says he is capable of running the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds.

Doe is 6 feet 3 inches tall and 212 pounds. He says he can run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.

I always have a hard time beleiving times like 4.4.. Only a handful of NFL guys are that fast

Question: Wahpeton JUCO has sent quite a few kids to Division 1 programs.

Can anybody name one that panned out well?

Honest question here.

My uncle Myles managed to survive the Korea War and went on to a long career with AT&T. Does that count?

For the shear number of kids they send to FBS/FCS, not a lot have become household names. I will say that Keith Lipka played pretty well once he came back to the U.
