Josh Martin Season Updates

Seriously can't wait for this shattered backboard video.

My question is, what did they do for the rest of the game? Not like a highschool gym has a bunch of extra backboards to put up at the drop of a hat?!?!? Not to mention they had a tournament running, so you likely couldn't just switch courts as I would suppose most were in use or bleachers were in place??? My guess is it wasn't a "shattared" backboard like in Blue Chips, but he might have put a crack in it or something?

I'm a little bummed that no one caught my Ramones reference.

*Sorry, not sure if this warrants a new thread or not. If not, the mods can just merge it.

With that out of the way, Josh Martin...
1) SHATTERED A BACKBOARD TONIGHT! Yes, he broke the backboard with a dunk.
2) On a separate dunk, he posterized TWO defenders with a thunderous tomahawk throw down.
3) He finished with 24 pts, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Ho-hum.

From Joshua Liesbekind, Seattle Times.....
Hey,

I apologize, but I'm not sure I know of a time when he has broken the backboard. If you are referencing my tweet from Saturday, I was describing a vicious dunk. The backboard did not break.

Sorry for the confusion.

Josh

Freaken 2 Stars.....

Do you have to see him play to give an opinion on this board? Most of the guys let me get by, because I played and coached in college.

Howie, my friend, you usually are well regarded in your posts on GH because they are well based. Just because you played and coached in college does not impress us when you make a comment that has no basis, but still use that experience to justify it. Not impressed.

Seems extremely weird because Josh tweeted he'd try to find a picture of the backboard (in reference to the broken backboard. Then he said if he couldn't find a picture or video it would only be an urban myth/legend.
-Who do I believe here?!

Josh with 3 fouls in the first half. Bothell up 36-30 after 3.

Fouled out with 1:52 left in game and was in foul trouble the whole night. Team only had 44 pts, so I can't imagine he put up big numbers tonight. It looks like his team won the championship though!

You must be following Josh Liebeskind's twitter feed as well. Yeah, sounds like a tough game for him, but it happens.

Josh ended up with 16 points tonight as Bothell wins 45-42,,,

Bothell tops Ballard, takes tournament title

Posted by Josh Liebeskind

An absolutely tremendous game to end the Bothell Holiday Classic, as the Cougars held on to beat Ballard 45-42. The big ticket name, Josh Martin, ended up with the tournament MVP award, but didn’t play a huge part in Monday’s finale due to foul trouble.

Martin was relegated to the bench for much of the first half and eventually fouled out with 1:52 to play.

“That was big that we had a couple of guys step up and we did it defensively and rebound wise when we didn’t have the height,” Bothell coach Ron Bollinger said. “We had a bunch of guards out there. That was gutty.”

Ballard also had to play much of the game without one of its best players, forward Chase Deger. Foul trouble plagued Deger — he picked up two in the games first couple minutes — and then injuries forced him off the court. After a collision with Martin in the second half, Deger took awhile to get up and limped off with an ankle injury. He eventually returned, but would foul out with 4:14 to play. Deger held an ice pack to the right side of his face on the bench.

Ballard had a chance to take the lead with 10 seconds left, but Nick Brown’s three-pointer was no good and a put-back attempt didn’t get close.

Martin scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds (also had six turnovers) to lead Bothell and secured the tournament MVP award. Ross Bowers added nine points. Brown led Ballard with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Yes I am, and yep. He won tournament MVP and finished with a double-double though to keep that season streak alive (16 pts, 10 reb). Interesting to mention that all 5 of his fouls last night were offensive fouls. That may be something he needs to work on, but it's nice to know that we are getting a physical, yet skilled PF next season.

Martin with a triple double tonight in a loss vs Issaquah. 33 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocks! What's even more impressive about this? He played while still recovering from the flu!

PiPress: U recruit Josh Martin leads Washington state in scoring

"I stop thinking and just let the game come naturally," said Martin, who committed to the Gophers during the November signing period. "As the season has progressed, I feel like I've gotten better and better each game. The real improvement has been in my ball handling; that's gotten a lot better. I think that will help me when I get to Minnesota.

"When you have a guy as big as I am who can dribble, it's hard to stop."

Go Gophers!!

In 11 games this season, Martin has almost doubled his numbers from last season as he replaces former teammate Zach Lavine, who is now starring as a freshman at UCLA.

-How is Marting replacing a 6'-5" guard? Didn't they both start last year? I could understand if he said he was replacing his scoring, but he makes it sould like position.

I'm guessing that's what he meant, he's probably their main scoring option now, where he was a complimentary player before.

Go Gophers!!

The kid does not lack for confidence. That can be a very good or not so good thing. Grateful he is happy to be a Gopher.

We could use some confidence like that. Dre and Austin are more passive. Mathieu has that kind of demeanor and he has been carrying us this year.

Remember hearing Reid Travis just dominated Martin last time they played. Was curious as to if anyone had seen that game at all and had any input on how it went?

Hearing something about one game is necessary to make an accurate judgement, crazysauce!!! :)

Go Gophers!!

I have really high expectations for this kid. I wish I knew if he could hit a jump shot or not. He obviously is going to be a physical beast, and my guess is going to have a motor and a chip on his shoulder, which is fantastic. Can he knock down a shot from 15ft and out will be the key to whether or not he thrives, or is just another big body with freakish athleticism.
