I agree with your post. I would add that perhaps a player can be overlooked because of a "super star" on their team. Case in point... I watched McKinney play in the 2025 State Tournament... she had a double/double in 2 of 3 games and was two rebounds short of posting a 3rd in the final game. Crump on the other hand, while scoring more points (81/43) had 9 fewer rebounds for the three games.The rankings are not perfect. I’m not saying that she’s not a good player in a different system. However, there is an innate bias in the rankings to look at offensive players, without factoring in their defensive skills, or lack thereof. Additionally, a high school player can look really good against the local competition around her, or even because of the chemistry on her team. You also have other players that get completely overlooked because they don’t play for a “known” school or coach.
Unfortunately, she didn't fit Coach P's system. She had a year and a half to get there. But, with Woodson, Braun and the 5 tournament starters returning, without a big improvement in the next 6 months, her playing time would be limited.
