Throughout the course of the year, I'd be in the stands and see a fair-skinned kid grab an INT or make a key play and I'd initially think "There's the boy Koi...." because A) I'm terrible with jersey numbers and B) I usually don't follow route running or secondary play live unless the ball is actively in the air.

But I'll be damned if Jonny "glue hands" Nestor wasn't the kid I would routinely catch flashing and changing games for the better.
Add to that Kerry Brown, who got honorable mention for All Big Ten and I honestly think has a really big upside.

This secondary is still solid, and I think it can remain so in 2026.

Yes, I'm very glad to still have both of them. Of course, there is a very long thread about Perich (that I haven't read through) but I didn't see any mention of Za'Quan Bryan who I also saw in the transfer portal. I'm sorry to lose him because he was a capable DB and likely didn't make anywhere near Perich money.

Kerry Brown gets overlooked sometimes in all the focus on Koi but he is a hell of a player and him coming back next year is huge for the defense.

Nestor was the best defender on the field a few times this season. Really glad he is returning as well.

We will either need some young guys to step up and/or some portal additions to bolster the secondary but these two are great pieces to build around.

Both are huge to have coming back next year. The challenge will be having enough depth at DB - all it takes is 1 guy out of 4-5 in the secondary to not be good enough and the offense will pick on him all day. In the Northwestern game and the 3 blowout losses, it felt like there were 1 or 2 DBs per game that they kept attacking.
