Jim Carter on Rosen's Sports Sunday 4/2

+3,500 (the number of season tickets holders lost since Lil' Ricky took over). Guy is a disaster.
Maybe Doresy's ride out of town will sweep a couple back in?

I'm just curious how flamboyant Jim Carter's scarf was during the interview?

I would agree with UpNorthGopher, as would basically everyone I know that actually follows basketball closely

No worries, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am puzzled on what you have seen that is encouraging, however. I am not surprised some think Rich should stay, but "most fans"? No way. There will always be a few that oppose what is obvious so they can feel like they know more than the rest. I don't know more - just looking at facts.

Look in the mirror.

BTW Rick Pitino coaches Louisville. Now that IS a fact.

On a per capita basis there is less bluster and more substance in South St. Paul than in any other city in the Metro area. One of the reasons is that JimCarter left there long ago.

Tim Pawlenty leaving also brought the per-capita measurement down.

Jim Carter knows more about the inner workings of the U and the athletic department than most of you. I can't believe that many of you'd side with Kaler on this. Open your eyes and look at what is going on over there. Given every chance to right the ship, they continually fall on their sword. My bet is that they will screw up the AD hire as well. Kaler's track record: hired Norwood Teague, he cut relationship with Jerry Kill, no championship banners, attendance droping in all major sports but raised ticket prices, takes over half a year just to put together a search committee for the new AD.

Put me on the side that isn't impressed with Kaler, but still thinks Jim Carter is the looniest of loons.

hired Norwood Teague

Clearly, he should've had the clairvoyance to know that Teague would become a drunken lout based on the zero evidence of it existing beforehand.

he cut relationship with Jerry Kill

Jerry Kill cut the relationship himself when he retired due to health concerns. The U is under no obligation to hand him a job with high pay and little work so he can continue to get health insurance.

no championship banners

attendance droping [sic] in all major sports but raised ticket prices

http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/attendance-records.html

Highest attendance in football last year since the 2006 season, but who's counting?

takes over half a year just to put together a search committee for the new AD

So what? Why does everyone assume this to be a bad thing? Oh right, because you're all such big "fans" of the University of Minnesota.

Really?

Who the hell cares? His opinion means very little. Most Gopher fans don't agree with him.

Say what you want, but I know at least 3 huge donors that have canceled their suites for the games as well as their annual donations to the athletic department totaling well over $1M per year, one donor even had the football program in his will and removed them in the last month.

Everything about this post is so spot on.

Cool story

Yeah, that has to hurt, but hey, we don't need money for the athletic department.... oh wait, we do, we really, really do need it.

They'll rent the 3 suites to someone else. Problem solved. What should we worry about next?

"if you don't do exactly what I want, when I want it, I'm gonna take my money elsewhere!" Political parties/big companies/athletic departments etc. deal with that ALL the time.

The problem here is it's not coming from guys spending 10/15/100 million dollars, it's from guys buying "write-off" suites...

I did have to snicker when he said "huge" and then said they were slightly over $1 M combined.

I still can't believe he knows 8.1% of the suite holders at TCF Bank Stadium. The man's connected.

According to that other article they would account for about 10% of athletic dept donations. I believe it said around 10 mill for the Gophers?

Which makes it less and less likely...

Not even remotely accurate, as laid out above by dpo. Jim Carter has no more of an "in" than Sid.

Sorry, bro, but I call bullsh!t. Total and complete.

Go ahead, bro, call b.s. all you want, then go read Dave Shama's newsletter!

Ok, so let's assume that you are correct and all the long time boosters that have lasted through all of the lean years are now all quitting on the U. So what are their demands, or what changes are needed to have them continue being a booster? Go ask all of these booster you are close personal friends with and find out why now? We don't want to hear your guesses, but get more "facts" like the numbers of $'s that are leaving.

Don't try to reason with someone who is choosing to align themselves with Jim Carter.
