Jim Carter was on Rosen’s Sports Sunday last night (4/2/2016). Mike Max was filling in for Mark Rosen. Who saw this?

I took several things from this.

First, he is upset that Kaler has shut him out of the AD search process. Regardless of what you think of his personality, he has a strong desire to better Gopher athletics.

Second, he is not sure that Beth Goetz is ready to head such a dysfunctional dumpster fire (my words) as the Gopher Athletics Department. He likes her and believes in her, but thinks she needs more experience before stepping into the problems at the U. However, he also believes that the Administration and Board of Regents are going to spend big money to go through the motions of "looking" for other candidates and it will be Beth. He just thinks that it is a waste of money if they have a predetermined outcome in mind.

Third, speaking of wasting money, Carter is amazed that no one one the Board of Regents or the Administration put up the stop sign about the Pitino extension and increased buy out. He makes it sound like it wasn't brought to the Regents to do their fiduciary review.

When pressed by Mike Max on whether or not Pitino should be retained, Carter said Pitino should be fired. He listed seats not being sold, money not being raised and the worst-in-a-century record this season. He said the U doesn't have the money to do buy him out, but the U also doesn't have the will to find the buyout money.

Lastly, Carter thinks that Kaler has on ego-driven blinders. He believes that Kill was not found a job at the U because Kill’s popularity is a threat to Kaler and the Administration.

Thanks Ewert. It is nice to see that Jim Carter cares so much about the university. I do however think that he is stepping over the line when he thinks that he knows Kaler's thoughts and motivations.

How is offering a reasonable opinion stepping over the line?

Is the popular opinion of Kill being a threat to Claeys stepping over the line?

From what I have read, it sounds like Carter has his own large ego. All of these types of rants by alumni that didn't get included in the process sound like sour grapes to me. I'm glad Carter cares about the Gophers but he doesn't need to make his negativity so public.

Well that is one of the burdens borne by boosters, the memory or ideal of what drew you to the U. For alumni, it is what the school was like when you attended. The further away you get from that time, then the greater the chance to see things that "are not like they used to be." That can be for better or worse.

I think he made some salient points about academic fears that athletics at the U could become too popular. I think the whole part about Jerry Kill not finding a place at the U is disgusting. It comes across as a Revenge of the Nerds plot in real life. I cannot list any names or departments in the U's Academia who are held up to superstar levels. I think that is where the sour grapes mentality has been institutionalized, in Academia at the U.

Thanks for the recap Ewert, but you buried the lead - scarf or no scarf?

The bottom line is when you add it all up, well respected interim AD, Board of Regents wanting final sign off on AD recommendations, a 16-person internal committee and a history of being an athletic department with more issues than titles, it is hard to believe we will get the type of AD candidates that a program our size should get. It's a shame.

My opinion is worth more than this loon's opinion. And that is saying a lot. He is a side show, at best.

And nobody at the U wanted to work with him huh? And he's surprised by that? That alone speaks volumes.

Well, he did say that they had to go back forty-one years to dig up dirt on him and he has been clean thirty-four years. I love how objective academics can be. ;)

All a successful athletic program does is increase donations and giving across the board, increase student applications and raise name recognition and awareness. And why would we want that.

Every time I read or watch an interview with this guy, all he does is passively aggressively rag on Kaler because he doesn't go out of his way to make Carter feel important, like previous AD's apparently did.

No kidding. In this case though, that could be have been happening only in the mind of a guy who seems to have a bit of paranoia in him.

No scarf. But I caught it halfway through, so maybe he threw off his scarf in a dramatic fit. He was wearing what I would describe as a "loud" black and white jacket.

True, but that salary probably has more to do with it than anything else.

Carter saying Kaler has a huge ego is the pot calling the kettle black? When I watched this I thought to myself that Ewert would start a thread about it

WE want that. People in positions of power at the U have self interest in mind over what's best for the University. Someone who wants what's best for the University wouldn't shut Carter out because he doesn't play nice. I generally think Carter comes off a bit loony, but I don't see anything unreasonable in that summary.

Much like a tree in the forest, if Mike Max is hosting would anyone watch?

At least when Max is on the radio, you can't see him doing that stupid smirk of his. Max was hosting the Sports Huddle on Sunday, and his idea of humor is making fun of Sid Hartman - a 96-year-old guy who's deaf and showing his age. That's real humor!

Do you want the Kweppie doll or the pennant on a stick?

Max thinks his jock comebacks certify him as an insider. Using it on a defenseless 96 year old is abuse. CBS should either fire him or restrain him from any further contact with Sid.

Carter is from South Saint Paul, which means he's all bluster and no substance. Take him with a grain of salt and a shot of whiskey.

Carter was definitely pissed. He was not hesitant about saying he would already have already fired Pitino.

On a per capita basis there is less bluster and more substance in South St. Paul than in any other city in the Metro area. One of the reasons is that JimCarter left there long ago.

Who the hell cares? His opinion means very little. Most Gopher fans don't agree with him.

My city is better than yours!

Most Gopher fans don't agree Pitino should be fired? Seriously? If true, Dear God - shut er' down. Pitino is a disaster in every single aspect. F

Do you call one of the highest teenage drinking problems in the metro "substance" or are you referring to the lasts failure of South Saint Paul to reach AYP? Just wondering?

I would agree with UpNorthGopher, as would basically everyone I know that actually follows basketball closely

+3,500 (the number of season tickets holders lost since Lil' Ricky took over). Guy is a disaster.
