per NJ.com:

Jerry Kill is again retiring from coaching and Rutgers football again is in need of a new offensive coordinator.

Kill, who suffers from epilepsy, will not return strictly because of his health, putting Rutgers in the market for an unparalleled ninth offensive coordinator in nine seasons after the latest one-year stint. A national search already is underway, a source told NJ Advance Media.

While both Kill and Rutgers coach Chris Ash expressed an in-season desire to continue the partnership into 2018, it became clear recently that change was coming.

Kill's decision comes on eve of the first early National Signing Day, when recruits will ink binding letters of intent. Had it come a few days later, the national perception might have been that Rutgers withheld the news in order to secure commitments under false pretenses -- a strategy used by some schools that draws outrage toward the NCAA model.

Go Gophers!!

Kill is a great guy, but he has got to stay retired, his health comes first.

Forced out after Souhan barraged the Rutgers Daily with letters to the editor about how unfair it was for Jerry to continue while his health was still questionable.

ol' jer is a ball coach. it's who he is, its in his blood.

Wow. Well, I guess he gave it one last chance. Fair enough ... but hope he stays retired for good, now.

I really don't like hearing he continually is having issues. His body must be still telling him he can't do the commitment. Wish he could, but he needs to do whatever is best for him. Whether he thinks that is coaching or not coaching. Wish him nothing but the best.

Even if he wanted to, it might be very difficult for him to land another coaching job, even as an assistant. He's clearly marked as a short-term option now.

Kill issued a statement through Rutgers, thanking the school for the opportunity to coach again.

“I hope that through my 34 years of coaching that I was able to be a positive influence on young people because that is truly why I coach,” he said. “I want to thank all the players for what they have done for me. I appreciate and love all of the people that are part of my family. I don’t have any regrets and I’ve had a blessed career. I love this game and all the coaches that I’ve worked with. They have all made Jerry Kill a better man. I know that I did it the right way and I did it my way. I gave everything I had to the game, I just ran out of juice.”

Gotta stop doing this Jerry. Your body is telling you something, listen.

I sincerely hope at this point that he is smart enough to not even try to get back into coaching (at least at the college level again). I would like to think no one in their right mind would even consider him for a high level coaching position at this point but i guess you never know. If he can't totally walk away from the game then find some low pressure behind the scenes role like what he had at K-State so that he can be close to the game but not under the stress and strain that comes with coaching.

If he has to coach go find some high school coaching job where there is little to no pressure involved. Hopefully this was finally the wake up call he needed that he just can't do it anymore.

Does Rutgers need a liaison between HCs and the AD?

Jerry Kill is a good man. He beat Nebraska two years running, I'll always admire him for that.

I wish him well. He has done so much for Gopher Athletics.

He deserves to be relatively stress-free for the sake of his health and family. If he take a a job, I hope it is something that is very low stress.

He took a job here when nobody wanted it & ran with it.
The man did good work here.

Are we allowed to say good things about JK in this thread without someone taking it as a slight on the current coach?

If Jerry handeled his post U comments more maturely and the U had more class his name should be somewhere on the new Athletes Village. Jerry, you were a great coach for the U - to be honest, I don't know off the top of my head how W's and L's added up, but where the program was and where it ended was something we could be proud of. I never thought towards the end of his run that we would go into a game and get blown out of the building by anyone and we could compete against anyone.

I think so. PJF had no hand in what happened here prior to him. And I like to look at him as just another brick in the process that JK started.

That's a really good point - after Kill's first year the Gophers put up a fight against the best teams on the schedule. It wasn't long ago that MN was losing to ranked teams by such scores as 52-10, 48-12, 44-0, 44-10, 52-17, 45-0, 56-3, etc.

Thank You Jerry Kill. You had the balls to put out a raging dumpster fire that was Gopher Football. Both spiritually, athletically, socially, and any other discipline these phony pundits want to profess. YOU are a football coach. You made Minnesota Gopher football fans excited and at least hopeful for the future. You and your assistants built the the program to above respectable and would had continued to do so if not been fired by the Snake. I sincerely hope that you can find a position in football that can balance health and passion.

39-0, 31-0...oh, that's right, that was this year's squad. [emoji32]
I wish Jerry well. If he takes some time to reflect, he has an excellent future helping others become better people. The venue will have changed, but the purpose for why he coached can remain. I have nothing but respect for him...and his strong, courageous wife!

He made good men out of young kids and set up the team to win in the classroom and out in the public.

Exactly. And won games.

Wishing the best for Jerry and his family. He gave us hope that Gopher FB could be competitive. He does have a chronic disease and I hope he will concentrate on his personal health and be well.
